• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Idea: CAD export feature

Hi!

I was just thinking that the ability to export airports as a CAD filetype may be useful to further enhance airports created in ADE in 3DS Max, Blender, ModelConverterX and other 3D applications to or at least to have use the layout of the ADE airport as a background to work on.
Filetypes like DWG, DWF, ASE, OBJ or even MDL for example.

As one example this would make it much easier to add custom made ground markings etc. not supported by the FSX/P3D XML engine.
Currently there is no way to import ADE and/or XML files into a 3D environment because it's just a very basic description of vectors, particularly for taxiways or taxilines where only few center nodes along a curved line may exist. A feature to export a CAD layout of what is actually seen in ADE would help a lot.

What do you think?

For custom ground lines and polys you should look at the ADE-GP function which supports those for all versions

Indeed, it does at a basic scale. But when it comes to adding detailed features like puddles with rain effects and and other certain material types (like certain FSX and P3D material settings with reflections, bumpmaps and so on), that's going beyond the capabilities of ADE and what ADE should do, right? That's where a feature to export what's visible in ADE to a 3D/CAD format could come in handy.
It could also be useful to convert content to other sims like Aerofly (that require layouts as 3D content) that are currently not supported by ADE.
Just an idea.

OK. I will say that there are no plans to do anything like that in the foreseeable future.
