• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.

    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

I was led over here to query Mr. Vile about accurately completing this lovely ILS 17 out of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic (MDSD) Its the first approach in the long attachment.

If anyone would like to lead me in a tutorial, I'd really appreciate it as this needs to be fixed for a school that is using a sim for actual currency. I need help in doing this since I'm new to approach building (started yesterday) but not to flying as I'm a former airline pilot with 5000 hours of instrument time. Anyone care to walk a guy like me through the paces? You can reach me via a PM if you have a walkthrough that's easily understood by a non tech dude, but glad to become one.

You didn't say which version of FS this is for. It may be easier to build the approaches in the FS version you need, then have you study the approach code in ADE approach mode and answer any questions you have. Learning by example is generally the quickest way to learn something. This assumes the approaches are not already in the sim or that they may need to be modified to become current.

I don't have a current Airport runway chart for headings but that ILS has an offset Localizer (S-ILS). If I add the IF of VOLAM (do away with the IF NDB) do you want a straight in Localizer or do you want to keep it offset.

The ceiling and visibility minimums also reflect the localizer is offset since it has a MAPt.

Has the NDB Ident LAS been decommissioned? I can no longer find it on my Jepp Charts.

Well I always thought that a MAPt denoted that you needed to start your missed approach to not infringe on obstacle clearance.

It is a straight in approach so I added VOLAM. I also added VILSA since the DME arc is now 13 miles DME instead of 10.

I've got the ILS down. It's now frustrating to do the VOR approaches as they all have arcs. I'm having fun though.

Bruce, I'm not adjusting approaches to live in 2005, I need to update them and make them current.

My fault on the MAPt, I was thinking something else.

If it is straight in then align the Localizer in FSX to runway heading. It is off a few degrees.

Check the start location for RWY 17 so it also runway heading to the 6th decimal.

Start FSX and go to MDSD Rwy 17.

Save as a file so you always have it.

Now using slew mode go back and up to set the correct position for VOLAM

NOTE: You can use the Lat/Lon of the published T_waypoint or waypoint and then add with ADE but the FS world is not exact. I perfer to slew backwards and upwards until I am positioned where the IAF and the FAF should sit.

Use the stock KHUT for a good example of arcs for ILS and VOR's

In the following picture for a VOR arc use our line draw at the top menu (looks like a ruler) to pull a line out to where you want VILSA. The line will show NM's (mine is 15). Now it is VERY IMPORTANT that in the AF Leg all fields are used correctly. The theta and rho set the arc distance out to your new VILSA and the heading recip from the VOR.

It is also important you reference the correct REC Type, Reg, Ident so the arc knows where it is referenced from.

Exactly the point of my question.... You can make either FS version as current as you need by modifying existing approaches or building entirely new ones. I'll assume from your response that you are using FSX. :)
