• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Importing a section into another AIR file?

Hey all,

I use Aircraft Airfile Manager V2.2.

I am trying to import (Copy/Paste) a section of another planes VTail into another AIR file and for some reason, it will not paste. Not available, grayed out, will not work, doesnt work no matter what I say, etc. Control-V, nor 'Paste' option in menu works.

I also tried to create a new section (1206 Vertical Stabilizer) and that didnt happen, no way to add/create a new section.

Am I missing something? I remember doing this in the past. Have times changed?

Bill,
1204 to 1206 are obsolete. If you want to put another tail on an airplane in the sim it will have absolutely zero effect. The dimensions for tail surfaces are in the aircraft.cfg but they are largely eye candy. You can change their size and position and there is no effect in the sim. What will have an effect is changing the air file values for the stability coefficients. These are either in section 1101 or if that is not present, they are in 1539 through 1544.
In the real world the stability of an airplane depends on its geometry and physical design and those aspects dictate the stability coefficients whose values are typically calculated from wind tunnel data. In the sim the geometry is not considered because the coefficients are input by the designers.

It is possible though not simple to use AAM to copy sections from one air file and paste them into another. Much easier to delete than add.
It is worth taking the time to read through Yves Flight Dynamics document which is in the downloads section of this forum. https://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/resources/flight-dynamics-in-msfs-v1-0.169/

You might have a look a look at AirMerge. It is attached to post #15 in this thread: Air2asm ??

Make sure that you get the latest version that is in post #15.
