• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Increase Vegetation density

Hi,

What kind of logic would you expect?

Surely, ultimately, unless you're placing vegetation objects not using polygons, how FSX renders vegetation autogen is dependent upon scenery settings and a couple of parameters in the fsx.cfg file?
As Arno asks, what is the expected outcome?

So, a good example of density would be what AGN Merge Tool uses, it offers to increase density. It creates Rectangle Polygons and enables one to choose a density value. Basically, it would be convenient for Scenproc to be able to choose a tree density, say, per square kilometre, the flight sim engine can then downscale as required for performance reasons.

I have used Vogel's AGN Merge Tool v2.30 which has this feature however, it is a far less convenient way as I have to process my data twice, given my data is for an entire country, this takes days.

The FSX/Prepar3d engine has a limit to density, I don't know why this is so, but doesn't allow for a visually appeasing density level, especially over not so high res photo imagery.

Thanks

Kelvin

scenProc has a feature to create rectangles from polygons. And you can specify the size and overlap of the rectangles. I think it will give you similar results.

From my experience more than 10000 rectangles per tile start to hit your performance.

The CreateAGNRecVeg doesn't seem to have any optional values, so I can't seem to work out what to put for the size and overlap, but this is close to what I was thinking.

That step is used to make the autogen. But it's a separate step that creates multiple rectangles from a polygon. I'm not being my pc now but it's named something like ReplacePolygonByVegRectangles.

Forgive a brief indulgence in some well-intended humor, but I'm glad to see Arno is taking a break from all his hard work today: :D

That's what you get from typing on your phone :D

Having used speech recognition software extensively for years, I've had many extremely humorous "recognition" errors.

Some errors found on proof-reading could have been rather embarrassing and might have put one at risk for being held accountable professionally ...if I hadn't gone back in some types of documents to catch and correct such errors (and 'typos') ...before release ! :yikes: .

Good thing we have a friendly environment here for times when one's typos aren't prevented by use of speech recognition software.
