• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Inefficient texture arrangement in Material editor

Gary's texture formatting tricks seem very effective for this kind of situation, but it seem's like a Sketchup side plugin or extension might be a more appropriate way to apply the required edits, rather than trying to accomplish this through MCX.

Sorry I did not make it sufficiently clear in my original post; I have now edited that post for greater clarity ...here: :pushpin:

Please note that I did not recommend any modifications to be made via MCX.

While there are indeed 3rd party Ruby plugin scripts which can further enhance the options one has when performing a "Make Unique Texture" operation in Sketchup, in this particular case it is not required- nor is it suggested that one 'needs'- to use such a plugin ...in my posted work-flow above, which uses the default feature. ;)

PS: Additional options are available via Aerilius' "Make Unique Texture ++" Ruby plugin script:

As you can see on left I used the "Make Unique Texture" feature in Sketchup. This was necessary because I didn't find the other 2 places of __auto_5.jpg (one is on top of the roof, the other on the other side). Is there a way solve this without "Make a unique texture"?

Another question: in the Material editor you can resize the seperate textures, but only in certain resolutions, which maybe have an other aspect ratio than the original texture. If I do so, will the aspect ratio of the texture in the model also wrong or will MCX adjust this automatically?

Cool, I'll try it. Maybe this is the perfect way for me. If I could arrange all textures into one texture in sketchup, I could export the X-Plane Object directly from Sketchup!

MCX is focused on texture that have sizes with a power of two, since FS requires that. If you resize a texture that has another ratio this will not affect the visual results, the texture mapping remains valid.
