P3D v3 Instant Scenery or something else...?

Anyone using instant scenery with p3d v3?

I do know it works, I got the demo once and wanted to add my own object and it says it cannot add the object, because it's not FSX library object... yes it was p3d created object.

In addition I think it has terrible support for being a payware product.

... soooo ...

is there some other better way to add objects?
I hear something called XML object placement, but couldn't really find anything more about it how it's done :(

what I am looking to do is add some junk around the airport, baggage carts, loading ramp vehicles.. or whatever they called .. idk suitcases thrown around LOL whatever just some stuff...

ADE is a-OK, but again placement is mostly guess work, yeah i added something but then when I turned on all animations in sim there were a lot of loaders and stuff driving through my stationary vehicles.

so I think what I am asking is kinda like SODE, where I can specify placement out of the sim.. then it basically writes and XML file... but I don't want them to be SODE, they are not going to be animated or anything... yeah I am not sure....

There was also mission creator DLL of some sort (don't recall exact name) but seems it's gone from p3d v3 SDK :(, that would work very nice and do exactly what I wanted, but yeah it's gone

Instant scenery might indeed have a lot of object but I want my own :D and honestly to pay money to add few objects that I want idk.. oh yeah actually nvm I can't even add objects that I want (not FSX), yeah I browsed their support forum.. concluded next to no support there  so pay money get little to no support.. nah don't like that..

Anyways appreciate if someone could point me to some TUT or something that works nicely for adding small objects to your scenery

Thanks

As far as I know IS is the only tool that allows to add things while seeing them in the simulator. It works without issues with P3Dv31. Whisplacer is a great tool to add vegetation along lines or in defined areas.

Whisplacer has a 'live' preview as you place objects, although I'm aware that some people have problems getting it installed -- it is no longer supported, which is a pity, as even unfinished it is the best placement tool I've used. Martin also pointed out another great feature, the ability to quickly place multiple objects on a line, from randomly spaced/sized/rotated trees, to tidy fence-lines.

Another choice, which should work, is the built-in Simdirector, it gives a live preview, although in it's own P3D rendering window. This is similar to the old mission-creator tool in FSX, but it can be used just for scenery files if you want. Rather than 'save' a scenario, you can 'export' a scenery BGL/XML.

It isn't the quickest tool I've ever used, I can place a dozen models in Whisplacer in the time it takes me to place one, but it is still in development -- a bit of useful feedback to LM about how this should work might result in a great placement tool.

Was the trial version of Instant Scenery which you used compatible with P3D?

I found that the IS2 version which I paid for was not compatible with FSX-SE, and they wanted me to pay full price for the IS3 update which works with FSX-SE. I told them to pound sand.

That said, IS2 was awesome for placing objects in FSX, and if you intend to place objects in P3D, it would probably be well worth the money, unless they expect you to pay full price for any updates to P3D.

I might add that if you had paid for Instant Scenery, the support may have been enhanced.

Good luck

I had all versions of IS licensed. The one that I have and which works well with P3Dv31 is Instant Scenery 3. The same thing applies though like with many third party addons. Whenever LM makes and update you have to wait until IS has been updated. That took some time on occasions....

Thanks guys.

I looked into wishplacer but was somewhat turned off by reading lots of people have problems and it is old and no longer in development sadly :( as it sounds very good, I might revisit it again..

Simdirector ... Wow didn't even know what that was (I'm new :p ) great excuse works all the time, will be looking into that for sure.

@Gman instant scenery demo I downloaded was described as p3d v3 compatible.

It lasted on my computer for a few hours while I did short research.

Here's what happened just to clarify...
Installed demo went ahead to add one of my created objects get message:
"Not an fsx object can't add to library "
Indeed object was created with p3d SDK.
So I went and looked around if I was missing something, visited the forum and found quite a few unhappy posters and many unanswered post with what seemed like fairly valid questions... Not much relating to my problem " why I can't add object created with p3d SDK to tool that claims to be p3d compatible?"

Long story short I deleted the demo never even used it in p3d,
If I can't add my object to library of objects that was a deal breaker. I have no use for it in this state .

Couldn't be bothered to install fsx back on my computer with its SDK and what not, fsx chapter closed in my book.

So that being said I was looking for tool to easily place OBJECTS CREATED BY ME not a tool with an array of objects, not what I was looking looking for.

There is likely nothing wrong with it and it would work just fine but again not what I was looking for.

To clarify about poor support, it takes long time to get tool updated to new version of p3d, that's fine, but if once declared p3d compatible yet I cannot import p3d native MDL's in it well then what's the point and it might take very long time before it will do that .

So again I have nothing against instant scenery but it will not do for me what I need done, once this is updated I will buy it for sure.

I don't have P3D, but it seems odd that IS3 would be warning you that you didn't have an FSX object for placement in P3D.

Just for conversation sake, you do know that the demo is limited to a certain radius around Seattle....right?
I don't have P3D nor have I ever tried placing an object with an IS demo outside of the allowed area, so I have no idea what the warning would be if one is trying to place an object outside of the demo radius.

Maybe it would be a good idea to wait until the IS3 crew has all of the bugs worked out of its P3D version.
Again, it could be that they have simply not kept up with the most recent P3D version updates.

That said, (and I hate giving them a good rating after not providing me an update from FSX to FSX-SE) it really is a cool kit which makes object placement a simple and intuitive process. (Instant Scenery developers be advised that this will be the last good word I have to say for your product, just for the good old days...you're on your own from here on out).

Cheers

I never gotten into using IS in p3d, I followed the instructions to add an object to IS library. That is when I got message that this object cannot be added because it is not an FSX object.
So to be exact I used IS' library creator will not accept object unless it was created for FSX so to my understanding created using FSX's SDK tools.

Yes, I am aware of Demo's limitations but as I say I didn't even go that far, I wanted to add my own objects and these are created using p3d SDK and appears IS library creator will not accept them. :(

Maybe there is a way around it, but I don't know of one at the moment, other then installing FSX SDK and using that lol

So although IS probably works just fine with P3D I can't add p3d MDLs to its library.

I will likely still buy it in the future for things like road placement and others but yeah for what I needed it now it's a NO GO.

Maybe I should rephrase what I mean by poor support,
Is support for the product itself and not necessarily the customers, albeit there was many unhappy campers on their forums lol., but yes things like timely updates of the program itself and making it fully compatible with p3d not just partially

as it is in my case, where yeah sure I can use it to place things in p3d but if I want to add my own stuff I have to make it FSX mdl and not P3D.

Tool itself is Awsome IMO but for now it stays in their store.

Too bad that you bailed out on the IS3 demo without placing any objects. It might have been a good idea to place objects from a working object library in order to verify that IS3 was functional in your version of P3D, before going to the extreme of deleting the IS3 trial which you now may not be able to re-install. In other words, for future reference when it came time to buy the full IS3 version, you would know it can indeed place objects in your installation of P3D.

You said that you were trying to place your own creations into an object library, and that you didn't get past the IS3 library creation utility. You could have used Arno's Library Creator XML to do the same thing. If Arno's LC XML also failed, you would know that the issue was with your object, and not the library creation utilities.

You may also do well to check out Arno's superb ModelConverterX utility, it is a great Swiss Army knife for working with .MDL's.

I don't know what you used to create your objects, but are you sure you compiled them as FSX .mdl's?
Are you able to place your objects in P3D with ADEX?

You may want to post one or more of your failed .mdl's for the experts to investigate, if for no other reason than to attempt to successfully create an object library with your objects, which I suppose you might get someone to test in IS3 prior to buying it.

Good luck and best regards
Gman

Talking about it... :p

Just started into the flightsim computer and was greeted by Instant Scenery with an update notification to 3.06. This is the compatibility update for P3Dv32.
