• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Invalid airports

Welcome

Not sure what you mean by "invalid". Sounds like you are trying to send AI to an airport without any parking spots. To find that out , you will need to open the airport in a program like ADE. That tool will allow you to add the needed components for AI to use the airport.
Or, perhaps you have created an airport and want AIFP to recognize it. In that case use the "Add Airport" or "Collect Airport" function in AIFP.
Give us a little more info.
Good luck.

hello bob

I've just tried again and found another ap that fp is marking as not valid
Amberly airforce base in Qld Aust YAMB it has plenty of parking but it's still a no go, I've used the collect tool and upgraded the file without any success

regards geoff

The stock YAMB has plenty of aprons and areas for AI to part, but no actual parking spots. No military airports do in FS. What is the difference? Kind of hard to explain. Parking spots are not a physical thing you see at the airport, but rather part of the underlying structure that makes the airport work, like comms and ILS. You will need to modify YAMB with a program like ADE to add parking if you want to send AI to it. In the meantime I suggest you practice using AIFP with two "normal" airports, like KSAN and KLAX.
Keep us posted.

hi Bob,
Thanks for your help.

I have a zip 'RAAF AI v 1.1' which has populated all the Aussie mil airports, this is not the only ap I've had trouble with. Try Santa Cruz [SBSC] and Sigonella Mil [LICZ], both of which I've modified with AFCAD. I thought I saw a note somewhere, that it had something to do with a .dat file, that was not being collected.

regards Geoff

ps

I've had great success with the program, please don't think that I'm complaining. It's just a little bug that I would like to solve. I think the program is brilliant

Geoff, please explain what you mean by:
that fp is marking as not valid

Until we know what are the symptoms of your problem, we're not likley to be able to help you very much.

the actual message reads......

'this is not a valid airport code'..... and it comes up when I type the airport code as either departure or arrival. The codes that I've had a problem with are YAMB,SBSC,LIRC. I'm using FS9.
my system
Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 (build 2600)
2.40 gigahertz Intel Core2 Quad Q6600
64 kilobyte primary memory cache
4096 kilobyte secondary memory cache
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT [Display adapter]
averages 44 fps

I am unable to duplicate the problem. The ICAO codes YAMB and SBSC are not declared invalid for me. LIRC also is not declared invalid, but is not a stock airport; presumably you have it as an add-on.

The error message "Entry is not a valid airport code." is issued in only one place in AIFP -after it encounters an airport designation that is not either 3 or 4 characters in length. (The airport designator is the character string you enter in the departure or destination airport field up to the first white-space character.) There is no other analysis on the string prior to the message being generated.

Is the error consistent? Presumably your keyboard language is set to English or something else that does not insert additional characters. I wonder if your keyboard may be faulty and is inserting control characters as you type (which wouldn't appear in the text box) or some other hardware peculiarity?

As far as I can figure out, RAAF AI is a package of scenery, planes and FPs. Is that correct? If that is so, check to make sure you do not have duplicate airports conflicting with each other. There may be a newer v than 1.1.

LIRC also is not declared invalid, but is not a stock airport; presumably you have it as an add-on.

Earlier in the thread, he identified the airport as LICZ - the NATO military base at Sigonella, Sicily, which is a default airport, but with no parking.

The RAAF AI package was created by several Australian flight simmers back in 2004 for FS9. A really amazing package which established the concept which others like MAIW have extended and developed further.

It included a large number of AFCAD files for military bases in Australia, many of which are still on my FS2004 setup.

I must confess though I cannot understand what error message the OP is getting. Perhaps a screenshot of the actual error message would help, along with a description of exactly what step he was doing when the message appears.
