• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

P3D v4 Is P3D demand fading?

8 - CIRCLING BACK TO LAND AT THE MSFS2020-AIRSTRIP FOR A FULL-STOP:
I think "MSFS2020" must be re-branded into something, which honestly reflects Microsoft (business) intentions as stated back 2007:

"Microsoft2020 - Artificial / Virtual World(s) Builder and visual sTimulation Toolkit"
(inside which you can also "drive", "float", "fly" and spend the rest of your entire Life too)

9 - Here you have it. The (hidden) bigger picture, the background story on who's priorities have changed for what underlying reasons.
The brand called "MSFS2020" is not, and I repeat, is not about "100% pure flight-simulation" any more.

Want proof?
10 - Start asking the nasty questions / actively pushing for real (technically) verifiable answers on those much needed consumer empowering and supporting features.
Those much needed items by developers which have been systematically ignored by Microsoft and Asobo Studio for the last 2 years ...of still Beta-testing their newly created MSFS2020 eco-system...
So I guess we agree then.

There has been, I think, about 75% more "Scenery and Airports" development than "Aircraft & other" since FS9 in all sims. So People have cared more about scenery than any other aspect. MSFS has probably fullfilled what most simmers wanted more--Scenery"--I am sure P3d and others will just fade into the horizon in one or two years. --This to me is a detriment to our hobby.

MSFS does not compete with P3D in the professional/military sphere. Its lack of consistently and reliably organisable AI makes it essentially a first-person simulator - and that person is in a relatively empty world. Yes, there are limited opportunities to interact with other players, but not (nowhere near) in the sense and scope that P3D Professional does. The only consumer sim that does is DCS, but that isn't (yet) whole-world, and as far as I know has few professional applications or users.

P3D is perfectly good enough at representing the world for most professional applications - the users aren't there to admire the scenery or find their own house (though of course it can be given that degree of detail). While the consumer market suppliers have moved on to MSFS for their commercial products, those who supply military and professional training users are sticking with P3D. Those contracts are extremely lucrative.

MSFS will in a few years cover all aspects of our hobby. For so called "professional" applications yes, you will continue with what you have in P3d or the so called X-plane wich is trying to catch up. But for us "Amateurs" if you like the term, MSFS will conquer the skies like never before, until some new Sim comes along with new technology....

Guys, I have to say there are too many Sim's out there. I hate to develop the same airports for one flatform to another. Moreover there are too many updates and those make some problems again and again. I really desperate in developing the airports and I decide to quit for a while. New Sim like MSFS needs new hardwares and more investments both hardwares and software as well. The value of money is different due to cost of living in each country. To me it is such a big investment each time the new Sims come out.

Other things more than that, we need to educate ourselves for the new Sims. It is quite a lot of investment in time to learn and time for trials and errors. I think I need to stop what I have been doing for almost the past 10 years. Look around and see if it still worth all the investments in life.

MSFS is good for visual but P3D V5 is still a better choice for flight simmers who want to fly big birds. So, I think P3Dv5 has futere. New sims will take away some people from the old sim, that the way it is.

P3Dv5 seems dead in the water now, no update or word from devs on their reddit or forums in a while.
It still has the affinity bug where cpu0 is at 100% for no reason, and they haven't fixed it.
The engine, is a fossil, textures take ages to load when panning view.
Plus this looks like the route LM are taking:

Anyway, MSFS looks and feels like a 2020 sim. I'm sure that is the future now. Most of the comments on my fbook page are asking about msfs dev, which I'm going to switch to now. A bit too late it seems, there are tons of devs working on airports who have seeming come out of nowhere making all the airports to high PBR standard that I'm way behind on.
How did they learn how to make MSFS airports before the SDK was released or finished? Freelancers working with Asobo initially?

My initial thought was that P3D is likely to go through a quiet period, third-party-development-wise, and then then we'd see a more 'modern' sim which would bring it back to life. However I've realised that I let my P3D development license lapse and haven't loaded up the sim for over a year now! I still think that any new project from me may be for both P3D and MSFS.
Microsoft were always working towards a bigger, world simulator right from the beginning of ESP. Here's their plan from 15 years ago, a news item on their site. From that article:
Future versions of Microsoft ESP will expand beyond aviation into ground and maritime operations, indoor and avatar-centric simulations for commercial, government and academic learning opportunities.
Since this thread began, some of the big players in the metaverse have had to rethink things, so it is very possible that Microsoft's original plan may give them a 'win' in this area. People don't want to live their lives in a headset, but they do want a virtual world to pop into for a while. If you are concerned about the direction of MSFS now, just wait for ten years, and it'll be 'MS-something-else', with no need to specify flight simulation.

EDIT: oops, Shaun, I did mean to comment on your last paragraph, but got side-tracked
