FS2004 Jerky hangar door animation -> video example

Hey,

I'm having problems with animations in GMAX.
They are far away from beeing smooth...
First the video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6RZ44vBI9V0

The FS9-framerate is constant and smooth, thats not the problem.
The hangar doors are animated at 20fps from 0-200 with the tick18-prefix.

Is this kind of a jerky animation common for FS9?
I can't imagine, aircraft animations are super-smooth....

Thanks in advance for any kind of help :whiteflag

I dont have a fix. I DO get the same thing in my door animations, I figured it was normal. I wish it was smooth, but I get the jerky action as well as the final door 'snap' closed at the end... looks smooth in gmax, something different in fs9...

Im keeping an eye on this tread, but it may be a funk with fs9... Im hopeful that someone has a fix, but I chaulk it off to fs9 anomoly.

Hey Ed,

well, I just asked another prestigious scenery-designer who considered this as an unsolved problem, too.
What a pity, it really doesn't look nice :(

Are there maybe other ways to animate the doors instead of the tick18-method? And is it the same with hangar doors in FSX?

Thanks for any kind of help or comments on this.

If you keep the asm files, you may note the animation "waypoints" are not fully filled. You might try to add more gmax keyframe points in the animation, to force MakeMDL to add more of the animation "waypoints".

Also, the MakeMDL optimize checkox may be removing some of the "waypoints".

I think Arno has some familiarity with this.
