• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi guys, really don't know if this is the correct place for this tread, and in case It's missplaced, please tell me. Anyway, what I am trying to do is to get a jpeg picture that has been taken with my camera, and place it in its correct coordinates in FSX. Can you please advice which is the software that I have to get so as to accomplish this.

Posted this threat a few days ago and seems that no one has an answer for it? what I am trying to do is to place a jpeg picture of my house which is real close to my home airport, and fly over it, as planes departing from this airport do, to visit the Nazca lines, south from where I am. Guess there must be a software that can do this, problem is that I don't know which.

I'm not too sure what you are asking -- do you have an aerial photo taken from an aircraft? Is it just the ground image you want to place in FSX?
I'd just look at the SDK tool 'resample'. This is probably all you'd need.
To use your image, you'd need to correct the perspective and rotate it to match WGS84 projection.

The mapping industry uses some very expensive tools and software, which nobody could hope to match, but since you are looking at one small area it would be fine to manually correct, rotate and place the image. It would be even easier to do this is with a tool such as Global Mapper, but this costs at least US$200.

I'd be inclined to look at images which are already projected to WGS84 -- such as Google Earth -- and use this as a template to fit my image over the top.

Then all you need to do is to work out the co-ordinates for the inf file -- I think you'd need to do some serious research to learn how to do this, it isn't an automatic process.

Hi, thanks for your reply. Let me clarify what I am trying to do: No I do not have an aerial photo taken from an aircraft that I want to take to FSX. And yes it is just a ground image taken with my Nikon digital camera that I want to place in FSX? can I do this? how and using which software?

Hi,

I am still not sure if I understand what you want to do. That photo of your house, do you want it displayed on the terrain or onto a 3D object?

Hi Arno, what I want to do, if posible, is to place the jpeg photo of my house on the terrain that FSX shows around the airport that I made with ADE in Peru(ICA)about a year ago, airport that FSX did not include in it's default list of airports, take off from there and fly over my house which is real close to this airport. Can this be done? The real airport can be seen with Google if you go to ICA, Peru, and I have also modified the scenery that google shows using FSX KML.

Hi,

As Robin said this means you will have to provide some geo referencing to your photo, so that the resample tool can know where in the world the photo should be placed. I think this only works well if you have a photo that shows your house from the top.

Arno, yes I was also thinking that a photo of the house taken from the top would be needed, and I don't think that it would be too hard to get. As to the geo referencing of my photo, this is also something that I can provide. With both issues in order the resample tool would know what to do, correct? Now that I know this, the key issue for me is to determine which resample tool do I need. Can you tell me which tool do I need and where to get it from? Guess that the whole thing must be an easy task for you guys, but for me it's really hard, being the first time that I try to do this, therefore would appreciate once more, your help and understanding:o.
Regards

When I say resample tool, I just mean the resample.exe from the SDK. I am not sure, but maybe you can even use SBuilderX to geo-reference your image. That might be worth a try I would say.
