• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Keyframe Numbers?

Hello to everyone,
I've made lots of aircraft models before, but they were always "hybrid" models made using MakeMdl. I'm trying to upgrade to native FSX models so my work will be compatible with P3D. I have a document from the FSX SDK that shows the number of keyframes an animated part has, but I don't know what number to set in which position. Ie, at frame zero, where should ezch part be, then 50, 100, etc.

Does such a thing exist?

Hi,

Not that I know of. What I do is import an FSX model into ModelConverterX. The animation slider moved to the left is keyframe 0, to the right is the maximum keyframe number for the plane. The number displayed to the left of the slider is the keyframe number. This will allow you to see how all the parts are animated.

With the sole exception of the four x-gear variables, which have 0 to 200 frames, all other default animations are 0 to 100 frames.

Thanks Bill, but I'm wondering more like when do I set keyframe zero. When the part is up or down? Like for aileronrs, or where should tires be at each frame or etc etc etc. I guess that doesn't exist and people have been going by trial and error?

At frame 0 the gear is fully retracted, fully down and oleos fully extended at frame 100 and gear down and oleo fully compressed at frame 200. Wheels should rotate 360 degrees between 0 and 100 and be sure to set keyframes at 25, 50, and 75 too.

As I said, it's very easy to figure out using ModelConverterX.
