• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Landing Light 'Effect'

Forgive me if this question is too simple, or ill-formed. I am trying to discover the 'lightmap' (I think it is) for the landing light pattern upon the ground for a particular aircraft. I can't seem to find the image used. Might it be included within the mdl? or do most aircraft use a standard pattern? I was hoping to get rid of the one included in this (freeware) aircraft and go with 3D Lights if that's possible.

I'm just learning how everything goes together and probably butchering everything I touch, but I am having fun doing it! :D

Any help would be appreciated (not in the butchering I can handle that).

Unfortunately, there is one -and only one!- bitmap used for all landing/taxi light ground splashes: spotlight.bmp

Also, this "ground splash" is NOT generated by an effect file! Effect file "lights" will not illuminate the ground at all...

Thank you! I had added a graphics modifier to my FSX and it modified the landing light graphic and it was not better. However, I was able to add an alpha channel to the official spotlight.bmp and have a much more realistic result.

Sirs,
I am searching now for a long time on this forum but still I can find what I am looking for, so I will ask here...

I am working on lights to my plane - it is the first time I am doing it. I managed to place NAV and BEACON lights using aircraft.cfg (I am talin' about FS2004), but now I would like to make taxi and landing lights. As I learned here, I have to do it using my .mdl file (it means editation in FSDS), not using aircraft.cfg. But I really do NOT have any information how to do it. Shall I insert some polygon into my project, give some special part name to it and it will work as landing light/taxi light on ground, as I am switching with my switch gauge? Sry for such a stupid question, but this is not mentioned in FSDS Help.

In GMax Materials.doc in my SDK I read, that for aircraft design I should use • Base Texture + NightMap. Am I true?
----------------------------------------
Or I am mistaking because I am mixing lights which aircraft cast on runway with reflection of fuselage? And as I am talking about it -> is here any easy way how to make logo light (it means reflection of aircraft tail when i switch on a switch in cockpit?

Next: virtual cockpit light... in some 3rd party addon I found in VC light.4 = 4, 13.12, 0, -0.33, fx_vclight_yellow. When I inserted into my plane and I switch on all lights, in VC is still dark, nothing changed. So what is this effect? How should I do virtual cockpit refflection?

I know I am still asking about something, but at this point I am missing some information source with all FS lights sumarization :) Thank you for reading this stupidly long post and kind help

PB
