• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Library object error

I get an error when I add an object to the object library. Once I place the object it looks like a box and not a jetway that I modeled. error1.jpg error2.jpg

Your question is less specific than, "can someone fix my broken simulator," in that it does not include the word "simulator."

Thank you for the sarcasm but Jon will understand what I am asking by looking at the thumbnails

Thanks to bother replying but this is a community forum and your question could, if you troubled yourself, save Jon the effort of answering the exact same issue again.

OK guys ☺️this is coming from the detailed footprint code written by Arno. I can't answer what is wrong but we do need to identify the actual model or object this is. Without it Arno will not be able to see what went wrong.

I can zip the entire file including mdl and bgl file but I am not sure how to send it to Arno. I really appreciate the help

Send him a message on the forum messaging system

You could describe your problem, how you got there and what software you used. The use the "attach files" button to navigate to the zip and upload it. Since Jon has identified this as Arno's specialty, you would probably do best to catch his attention by starting a new post in this thread.

Rick, actually the message with the screenshot of the stack trace is quite clear to developers like me and Jon. We can very well see where the problem occurs in this case. No need for the developer to provide more details. Also since this is about ADE, no need to post something in another forum.

Apparently, in this particular case, the message is clear only to you, Arno. I would think a reason to put it in any forum, with details, would be to help others searching similar problems.

This is Jon's support forum for ADE, so people looking to solve ADE problem come here, whether it will help others with similar problems or not. And this WILL help others with similar problems, because now they know that they need to bring it to Jon's and Arno's attention so they can solve it. We didn't know that before.

Forums are not only to help others with similar problems, but to help the OP as well. In this case the OP is looking for help for a particular problem, but doesn't know who to ask. Since this is in ADE, the logical place for him to post is here in the ADE forum. Jon figured out that this was Arno's issue, and Arno appears to be working on the problem. So everything was handled correctly, and the correct solution found. This is the way a support forum is *supposed* to work.

It is a developers forum and the goal would be to develop a record of problems and solutions, ideas and discoveries. I don't know how any individual can see an issue encountered as "their own," when they've brought it to the community for examination. Information is a resource to be shared, not a commodity to be hoarded and squandered.

Edgar added a jetway that he modeled to an object library. If he were able to say the way he'd made it, the software he'd used and the situation, presumably that there is no detailed footprint showing; two things might be different, first, it's entirely possible there would be no need to decipher the stack trace, I already have a few possible guesses as to the possible cause of the problem, I imagine others do as well, second, anyone else in a similar situation, that searched and some do, would have a healthy heads up on and possibly a solution for their situation, by the time the thread plays out. There has been no correct solution posted in this thread as of yet, Tom, but I am optimistic that all these ideas are helpful for the OP.

If you or any others have some guesses please post them. I am willing to try anything. By the way I made the jetway with sketchup and exported it to a 3ds file. I imported the 3ds into gmax and applied the textures and animated it. I exported the mdl from gmax. I then used modelconvertorx to convert the mdl to a FSX bgl. At this point everything went perfectly. I then used ADE to create the library object and that is where things went south which I described in the images in my initial post. I hope that helps you and others understand.

I do have limited experience with Sketchup conversions and I would like to take a look at you model in MCX myself, if you could allow. Arno may want to do the same. At the very least, we could probably make some useful suggestions.

Arno already has all of my files and he has conversed with Jon that the problem is some conflict with NET. 3.5 and NET 4.0 which he is working on. When they have a solution I will post it

The model loads fine in MCX. So it must be a bug I've already solved. Jon is using an older version of the bgl loader that still has the bug.

The problem is MCX is using .NET 4.0, whole ADE uses 3.5. My latest version can't be compiled as 3.5 anymore. So that's something I need to check with Jon.

I am aware of this problem and will look at it when I get back from vacation.
