• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Light effects (again)

I have objects assigned as "fx_navwhih" as part of an approach lighting array,
however the luminosity of this light is very low. Does anyone know what the lighting effect actually used for the approach lights or even runway lights (they appear to be the same) are? Or what do you use?

Kind regards,

Shaun.

Hi,

The lights of the standard runways are hard coded in the simulator, they are not fx files.

Thanks man.
I might have to scrap this then, another day wasted. I have seen on some sceneries custom made approach lights fixtures, I assume that they use effects for the lighting?

Yes, effects or the fs2004 bgl lights. But both approaches are not as bright as the default lights usually.

but I think, the intensity is adjustable in fs9.cfg:

[DISPLAY]
...

RUNWAY_LIGHTS_SURFACE_SCALAR=0.8
RUNWAY_LIGHTS_VASI_SCALAR=0.8
RUNWAY_LIGHTS_APPROACH_SCALAR=0.8
RUNWAY_LIGHTS_STROBE_SCALAR=0.8
...

So when I see some fsx airports with custom poly runways all of the lights are effects or default? I'm sure I have seen some, like Aerosoft's Santorini, where there is seemingly the default runway lights over poly ground textures? As the lights are raised above the surface don't they shine regardless of the poly being over the runway... as long as it's height is like .001m?

Can be bgl lights or effects or a old scasm runway with only lighting. It's usually hard to tell by just looking at the scenery.
