• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Lights inside a building

I have a problem that must be easy to solve, but I can't figure it out on my own! I built a small hangar that I want to be lit at night, only on the inside. How do I do this? Is there a good tutorial in which this is explained in detail?
Any help would be very much appreciated!

I would suggest using effects then to light the inside of the hangar. Then put conditions on them in the condition box like,

NIGHT=1
That way it will only work during the night time hours.

or if you read the Effects SDK you can put in certain hours of operation.

yes,

I would look around the forums for the various effects. I use my own for the footprint of the light inside buildings, but I like the fx_strahler.fx light that is somewhere here on the forums as the light bulb on big lights, or just use a self-illuminated material by calling it BRIGHT_xxx in the material name and it will glow. So, use BRIGHT_xxx or use an effect for the bulb....use an effect for the foot print...then make the effect conditional so it is only on at night and it looks great. Also make good use of texturename_LM lightmap files to add glow to windows.

There is a much simpler way to do lighted interior at night using textures only. Take a look on attached image to get an idea. Windows are cut using alpha channel.
