• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Linking objects

Good day to all,

This is my first post on this forum and I am pretty new to this world of scenery desing. My first project is the McDonald Cartier Intl airport in Ottawa, Canada. I am using Gmax, and so far, I am very satisfied from the result. My first problem (more to come for sure ;)) is with the linking of the different parts of a gates. I have followed the video tutorial and it has explained much. But if you take a look at the picture i have included, you will see there are two sets of braces on the side of the gate (purple color). When part '1' slides into part '2', and part '2' in '3', the two sets of braces should 'scissor' (i.e. the lower extremities should join while point A goes up ). Any ideas on how the objects could be linked for it to work? Hope I was somewhat clear!

Regards,
mat

Firstly i recommend you include them purple pylons in a texture so you can have a less impact on the frames. But really its up to you. If i understood correctly you want them pylons to move along with the jetway , to do this all you do is group or attach the pylons together with the main jetway.

hope this helps

That's not exactly what i meant. I drew a very quick sketch of what the jetway should look like extended and retracted; it will probably explain much better than my words! In Gmax, I will usually get a message like "Cannot link object, would create dependency". As for the textures, no worries, they won't remain purple ;) I'm working on the textures.

best regards,
mat

I done a quick test at this animation and here is what I came up with.

Code:
D C B A
/ \ / \

Link B to A, C to B, then D to C.

Make sure the pivot point is on the right of each object.

Click the animate button, then move the keyframe bar to the end of the animation. Rotate A to the desired postion, followed by B, C and D. Unclick the the animate button and press play to check everything is moving to where it should be.

Regards
David
