• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FS2004 "Lit" Light Textures in Daytime

Hi all

Apologies if this has already been posted - not yet been able to find an answer!

I'm having an issue with a lit texture during the day. During the night, the texture is "lit" all the way around as expected by a night light. However during the day, only half is lit and the other half is "shadowed" as it is not facing the sun. Is there any way to remove the sunlight effects on a texture to just have a lit texture during daylight hours?

Cheers in advance
Will

I believe in MCX there is an option for something about polygon normals that fixes this problem, but I don't know what it's called and if it is available for FS2004 (may be FSX only). It might be Unify Normals?

In the Vertex List for MDL Tweaker II (which is for FS2004) there is a button called Unify Normals - that may be it. Press that and then press Update.

Hope this helps,

Hi,

Yes, for fs2004 you can do this. There are some options.

One is to adjust the normal so that it points upwards, than you get the same shading on all sides and not different levels of lighting for different sides of the model.

Another option is to set the emissive color to white, if I remember correctly that will blend with the model in fs2004 (although it is a long time ago I modeled for fs2004, so I'm not 100% sure anymore).

Hi both

I don't really want to use MDLT as I don't believe it give out the ASM which I like to keep to modify by hand - unless there's a way to do that?

I've tried to edit the normals in GMAX but the only things I've been able to do so far is to show and flip them. Unifying them in GMAX didn't appear to do anything. What is the best way to edit them?

Also, is the emissive colour the "Self-Illumination"? If so that is already fully white and the non-sun facing side is still shadowed.

Thanks
Will

Hi,

In ModelConverterX you can set the material attribute assume vertical normal to true. For fs2004 mdl files that's the same normal tweak as mdl tweaker does.
