• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Looks for static car models.

Hello, I am in the process of editing an airport in FS 2024 to use as a private airport. One thing I was thinking of doing is adding some sports/sipercars to the apron of the airport near where I will park my plane, and I am wondering if there is a model pack that might include cars like this I can use.

Edit: I found this vehicle pack, but I'm not sure whether I can use it in the editor or if it includes any high-end cars like Ferraris or McLarens.

Thanks

You can use it in MSFS 2024 if you place the package in Community, just like any other package. A word of caution... the scaling of the objects might not be right, so you might need to scale them in the sim. I didn't see any high-end cars.

Hello again. Thanks for the help, yeah the only supercar I see is a Ferrari Testarossa.

Also there should be no issue if I get a model from someone else and then import into blender myself and then save to MSFS.

No. That's not alright unless you are never going to distribute the package. Copyright infringement, unless specifically OK'd by the creator of the model.

There is a way to make your own models and avoid copyright issues. Get an AI 3D model creation package. I use ELEGOO Chituglyph. It is a subscription service but you can use it for a month or so and un-subscribe; or keep on using it if you want to, for example, make other objects for your scenery. Chituglyph gives you the option of creating a textured model from either one or 4 images. The 4-image option requires front, rear, left and right views. If you select the "with textures" option it will generate the model textured to match the source image. If you get the un-textured image you can do your own texturing BUT the generated model will be an incredible dense geometry, normally around 1.5 million polygons although you can reduce that by using the "decimate" tool in Blender. The Chituglyph model will only have one texture, which looks a mess. I believe that is because they probably texture each polygon as the model is created. Also, if you decimate a textured model too much, you will get undesired effects, such as blotchey texturing. I tend to decimate down to 150,000 polygons which seems not to hurt frame rates in MSFS and preserves the texturing. Having got a satisfactory model in Blender you need to scale it to its real-word dimensions and then export it using the MSFS exporter.

The single image generator prefers a front 3/4 view. It will replicate what is sees; mirror the side it can see to the far side; and take a wild flying guess at the back end. That is what happened with the RAF Mk9 crash truck ( yellow side stripe ) below. Also, that vehicle's foam monitor is floating unsupported above the body.

If the vehicle is complicated, as with the Crash trucks below, the AI generated model will have some odd artefacts as mentioned, but cars should be fine for your stated purpose.

It sounds complicated but in fact once you get the hang of the work flow it is really quite straightforward. Also, even with the complicated textures you can re-colour a bodyshell simply by doing a global colour replacement in a graphics package of your choice. I have attached some images of vehicles I have created using this methodology.
