• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA Low frame rates

Hi,

As designer of the scenery EBOS_v.3 for FSX ( http://users.skynet.be/maximil/Design.htm ), I receive by times complaints about dropping frame rates.
As I red this morning a topic here from a designer who had the same problem and solved it after a backup of fsx.cfg and rebooting his PC.... I asked a simmer to do the same.

His answer is: after 2 minutes the frame rate drops from 50 to a poor 3-4 fps.

Searching in vain for a solution...

Hi,

The proposed solution didn't work.

Think that the scenery, although good working in FS9 under XP, is too heavy for those who uses Windows 7.
I can try to use LOD's... but what's about that ? ... no good tutorials at all, only complaints of not working LOD's (for scenery) setup as for FS9 and fail to work correctly in FSX(a).
More photoscenery then... I have to do nearly all the taxiways and apron.

Someone ?

LOD is not always the solution in FSX.
Draw call is much bigger problem.
We have disscussed about this, please search on Drawcall batching.
The more models you have and separately place by XML, the more drawcalls it would be. You have to import to ModelconverterX and change the option of export: DrawcallBatching to "True". Then export to MDL and do the placement again. You will be amaze how the fps will be. But it depends on the textures and the models. If you use same texture for a lot of models, such as cars or small objects, the effect of drawcall batching will be great.

Hi,

Very pleased... Thanks for the guidance and point me to this solution... very promising indeed. :)
I wonder if this "chirurgical proces" is backwards compatible (can I use the converted MDL's in FS2004 ?).

Hi Jose,

The drawcall batching is for FSX MDL files only. I don't think FSX does it for FS2004 object as well. To get good performance in FSX it is always better to convert your objects to the FSX MDL format.

Hi,

Found probably the reason why the framerates are so low.
In my scenery map is a file containing an AFW (Airport for Windows) with runway, etc... Have sent an e-mail to a simmerr, asking him to put this .bgl away and see what's happen. The result is that he has now 50 fps. instead 3-4 fps.
Have to rebuilt the runway with phototextures... :D
Or use ADE... even ScenegenX ?

Greetz. José.

Hi Jose,

Yes, AFW is even antique already for FS2004 and for FSX I would for sure not sure it. So that could very well be the reason for bad performance in FSX.

I would have a look at ADE to design the airport layout.

See if ADE will open the existing bgl.

You may then be able to edit it and recompile it.

Just a thought.

ADE will not read AFW files, they are not made using BGLComp, but using pre-FS2004 SCASM commands.

Hi,

I am a little bit stuck here...
Put the API into MCX and got a MDL-file.
Want to use Whisplacer or in ADE in order to place the object in the scenery.
What steps have I to do now ?

Greetz. José.

Hi Jose,

You should be able to load the MDL file into ADE to do the placement. Another option is to make a library BGL first and import that in ADE.

Hi,

I don't use ADE that often, but I am sure some other forum members can help you with that tool.

Hi,

Succeeded to place the taxi_edge light in ADE after some guidance from "Scruffyduck". ;)
Have more questions for Jon because there is also a _LM item and textures in the download file.
