• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX luminous question

I have this code for getting Luminous on my 2D panel

Code:
<Element>
<Visible>(A:LIGHT PANEL,Bool) 0 ==</Visible>
    <Position X="160" Y="160"/>
    <Image Name="attitude_or.bmp">
      <Axis X="139" Y="139.5"/>
    </Image>
    <Rotate>
      <Value>(A:Attitude indicator bank degrees, radians)</Value>
    </Rotate>
  </Element>
</Element>

<Element>
<Visible>(A:LIGHT PANEL,Bool) 1 ==</Visible>
    <Position X="160" Y="160"/>
    <Image Name="attitude_or.bmp" Luminous="Yes">
      <Axis X="139" Y="139.5"/>
    </Image>
    <Rotate>
      <Value>(A:Attitude indicator bank degrees, radians)</Value>
    </Rotate>
  </Element>
</Element>

This visable the element with luminous="yes" only when panel light is on

my question is if its possible to use only single element and set luminous="yes"
with "IF" method for better performance ?

Indeed. Like:

Code:
<Element>
    <Position X="160" Y="160"/>
    <Select>
       <Value>(A:LIGHT PANEL,Bool)</Value>
       <Case Value="0">
          <Image Name="attitude_or.bmp">
              <Axis X="139" Y="139.5"/>
          </Image>
       </Case>
       <Case Value="1">
           <Image Name="attitude_or.bmp" Luminous="Yes">
              <Axis X="139" Y="139.5"/>
          </Image>
       </Case>
    </Select>
    <Rotate>
         <Value>(A:Attitude indicator bank degrees, radians)</Value>
    </Rotate>
 </Element>

Thanks Tom
Its wery helpful

Now Im looking for way to set the 2D background BMP to be more darker at night (with light off).

one thing is to collect all the gauges under one perent gauge with darker background witch visable only at night and evening.

what do you think ? how this effect performance ? is there another way ?

thanks

Tomer

There is a luminous color setting that you can add to the panel.cfg to control color and intensity.

You can use the luminous tag in panel.cfg, as Ed stated, or you can try both with a parent <Element> with a darker bmp and with a parent gauge, depending on the number of bmps that are being applied against the darker background.
My advise would be to try the three options and choose the one you like the most. I guess there should be no performance issues by selecting any of them, unless your background is very big (!)

Tom

Since this for FSX presumably, you could also simply use the new feature for "_night" versions of your 2d artwork.

Check out the panel.cfg and bitmaps for the C172 default:

file_1024=cessna_172_background.bmp
file_1024_night=cessna_172_background_night.bmp

The _night version will be used instead of the daytime version when it's night and the panel lights are turned on...

Hi tom

How can I use luminous tag in panel.cfg

Hi tom

How can I use luminous tag in panel.cfg

Code:
[Color]
Day=255,255,255
Night=200,200,200
Luminous=255,197,105

  1. The first entry sets the color/brightness for the daytime 2d panel/gauge bezels
  2. The second entry sets the color/brightness for the nighttime 2d panel/gauge bezels
  3. The last entry sets the color/brightness for the luminous lighting

I tried to collect all gauges under one perent gauge with dark background panel BMP but the problem is that all the gauge needs to be much small (quality)

so that's what I did:

I build gauge with 1 element contain only the dark background BMP and use zindex to locate all the gauges above this background layer.

what do you think about this solution?
I wont effect performance

The luminous tag in the panel.cfg is the only guaranteed way to not affect performance.

Any method of adding more gauges can impact performance.

It should work fine but, question: is there a normal background BMP already on the panel, where the dark background would mean a copy to show at dawn/dusk/night ? If so, then your solution should work with little to almost null impact in performance. Now, if you are adding the dark BMP as a whole new gauge it is probable that you'll find some kind of impact.
The luminous option would be the simplest one but I believe, from your statements, that won't fit in what you're looking for.
