• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Luxor beam

I am trying improve the beam on top of the Luxor in Las Vegas. I have successfully made it taller. About 3 times as high as it was, it is now about 32,000 feet give or take. I am thinking of making it about 40,000 feet

Now what I want to do is make it viewable form further away. The problem is it seems as if it is linked to the Luxor because If the Luxor is not in view the beam disappears. Like if I am just trying to view the beam (looking up) and the Luxor goes below the screen the beam disappears. This creates another problem when I fly out of vegas the buildings disappears as I get far away as does the beam. I want the beam to be visible from around 100 miles away.

Any help from someone who knows about .fx files would be great. :)

The effect is attached to the Luxor object via an attach point, so as soon as the Luxor goes away, so goes the beam. If you create a scenery effect .bgl file, you should be able to get a little more viewing distance (I think). Basically create an .xml file that looks like this:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1" ?>
<FSData version="9.0" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="bglcomp.xsd">
<SceneryObject lat="LuxorLat" lon="LuxorLon" alt="AltOfTheTopOfThePyramidAGL" pitch="0" bank="0" heading="0" altitudeIsAgl="TRUE" imageComplexity="ALWAYS">
<Effect effectName="fx_YourLuxorBeam" />
</SceneryObject>
</FSData>

Then use BGLComp to create a .bgl file. I'm pretty sure this will be visible longer than the Luxor Object. You'll have double beam with the existing luxor beam, so you might want to edit that .fx file to be empty or just have the glow at the base of the beam.
