• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MakeMDL Placement Problems

Ok guys so once again I re-started my EGBG scenery and I have came across a problem.
Since this scenery is for FS9 I use the FS2002 MakeMDL to get the .asm files etcetera. So I have my reference lat and lon as the red square corner of the airport info box; which is: "N52* 36'23.03 W001* 02'02.95"

But when I place it into my FS it way away from where it should have been

Is there an offset with the makemdl and bglcomp? do i need to combensate this by adding or subtracting co-ordinates?

Also, how can i place my object to the EXACT co-ordinates from google earth, the co-ords i have (above) are what it should be, but FS2002 MakeMDL only allows me to enter "N52* 36'23" "W001* 02'02", without the decimals....

Am I going the right way about placing my objects?
what programs do you pros' use?
would i be better off placing them with something like "Instant Scenery" ?

Thanks for any help

I tried your co-ordinates with FS2002 MakeMDL, and they work fine for me. I don't know why you cannot enter them as that, but the problem is not with MakeMDL

Attaching files is a good way to get help.Just zip them up, and attach to a post. If they are too big toattach, there are plenty of online file-sharing services that allow you to sahre files... Google, Windows Live, box.net...

Do you have your Windows Regional Settings set so the decimal character is a period (.)? If not, this can cause problems.

Hope this helps,

Hi,

Don't forget that the coordinates you give are in the form of HH:DD:MM.mmmm, while the coordinates that you enter in FS are usually in the form of HH:DD.ddddd. So entering them in the wrong format can also give an offset.

You can enter the co-ords just as you had them... and enter them in the FS2004 Map just the same way.

I created/places the model with MakeMDL2002. It will accept the format you indicated. It placed the cube exactly where you would have wanted it.

Thank you so so so much! it works now!
I will give you a free copy of this scenery if I manage to get it to the standards I am looking for...
