• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Material settings work on one aircraft but not on the other?

I've got a material setting I made on a small plane that worked rather nice, specular settings were good in my opninion. So today I tried the same material settings on a bigger plane and it resulted in nothing, the specularity didn't work and starngly it seemed the diffuse texture for the wings wouldn't even show.
I'm using MCX version 1.3.0.0
I used a self made fresnelramp and the chrome env_map provided by the FSK SDK. I set all settings identical to the first plane. I also noticed MCX autmatically turns the texture names into all-caps (might be a problem when copying the fresnel and env_map name?). I also saved various times during the process, since MCX tends to run out of memort if I try to change to many material propperties at once. I then export my model as MDL and import it again to continue, might that be a problem?

If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it!

Hi,

The capitals in the name should not matter, that is just how XtoMDL stores it in the MDL file.

If you run out of memory you might want to try to disable the undo in the options, that saves memory.

Also version 1.3 is really old, you might want to try the development release. Which has many improvements and bug fixes.

And now back to your real problem ;), not sure why the materials behave differently. How a material shows up in the end depends on many things. For example the textures of the other model might be different (e.g. specular texture, etc). It's hard to see without knowing the details.

Hi Arno,

Thank you for your help. I'll try the development release and I'll disable the undo in the options tonight.
If it doesn't work I'll post the material settings and textures in this thread to give you a better idea of what's going on.

Thank you for your help.

Solved it! Downloaded the latest development realease, disabled the undo and got it working now! No idea what the problem was but it seems to be fixed now (atleast I can see it's speculatiry in MCX so I assume it will work in FSX aswell). Thank you Arno!
