• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Maya for Fs addons?

hello:
i have got Autodesk Maya and have made many models to suit Fs addon, but maya does not export to any usable format to use with the SDK converters. i want to convert some to mdl and some objects to Bgl,,all maya exports to is *.fbx and *.dxf not even 3ds. does any one know any plugin or the techniques of the conversions i have to go through to convert maya files to bgl and mdl, thank u very much.

Nothing that I know of. Is there a converter to the '.x' format? If you you may be able to use the utility in the SDK that creates mdls from '.x' files. I understand, though, that it expects stuff in the x file which is not usually generated by converters.

.dxf can be imported to GMAX. Not sure is that import is easier than making things completely from scratch, but try that.

As far as I know DXF is not really great in saving texture mappings, so I don't think you will save much time to doing that conversion.

I agree with Jon that the best guess would be to export to a X file somehow (and maybe add the FsX specific code manually later on).

hehehe, yes i have tried my luck with DXF, and saves no textures, and well maya also doesnt export to X format, so i guss i'm gonna have to install my old 3dsMax and do some modelling there. but the only reason i asked for maya was because i like its workflow and so used to it, but since i'm an old Maxer (not that i'm a 3d artist, hehe), i'll stik with that on makin addons.
thank u guys for the sugestions, i'll be bothering u'z later again :)
