• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX MCX ignores specular color

Hi Arno,

I posted this same issue about 4 years ago and at that time there may have been an issue with using material templates and essentially not saving specular colors in the mdl.

I'm having similar issues again, where I open the FSX model, assign black specular (0,0,0), save as mdl, but when I reopen the model it comes back with pure with white specular color. The model does not have specular texture. I also save Specular Level at 0, but comes back at 50 when I re-open it. Texture IS a transparency.

Am I missing a setting? I also have the flag IGNORE SPECULAR COLOR set = FALSE. TRUE yields the same result.

Thanks,
DavidR

Hi David,

I just did a quick test here, but if I set the specular color and export to MDL the setting is kept. I do see that the specular level setting is not always kept.

When you set ignore specular color to true, I think XtoMDL will no longer store the specular color. So in that case it could be that you see that some settings are not saved.

Thanks Arno. I think it's the same issue as before. If you ever apply a material template to either the model or .dae format, it defaults white. It must be toggling something inside the model. I just tried editing the model without the template, and manually entered transparency settings, and it saved the specular color. Go figure!

Which template are you using? Is it one that you made yourself? Let me see if I can reproduce it that way.
