• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MDLXReader Error

I recently started building my own scenery objects again after getting sidetracked in a different hobby. I made several models in Sketchup and loaded them into ModelConvertorX and converted my textures and drawcalls as I also did. Now, when I try to export the MDL the log shows MDLXReader sending an error "This is not a supported MDL file, file is of type PV20". I tried loading and converting some of my old models that I successfully created years ago, and they still get the same error. When I try to add the MDL to the Library Creator, it says the MDL is not valid.

Hi,

Sounds like you are using P3D v2 MDL files. Are you using the P3D v2 SDK?

From the screenshot it also looks like you have an older version. Recent version do support the difference between FSX and P3D.

I was using an older version of the V3 SDK, so I installed the the latest one, (3.4.18.19475), then changed all the ModelConverterX paths to new SDK. However, I still get the exact same error.

Am I correct in presuming that the log is saying?:

1) xtomdl.exe wrote MDL file

2) the reader (?) attempted to read the MDL xtomdl just wrote

3) reader errors saying xtomdl did not write the MDL in the correct format

What path to xtomdl.exe is correct? I chose the 2017 version (X64)

Are you using the development release of MCX? Version 1.3 does not support P3D v2 mdl files for reading.

Please use the development release then, version 1.3 only supports FSX and P3D v1.

P3D v2 and v3 have a different MDL format.

I also had to install the Dev Release for Library Creator. Everything is AOK now.... thanks

Correct, for Library Creator XML the same holds. Older versions are not aware of P3D v2/v3 MDL files and can't read them.

Glad to hear it's working now.
