• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MDX copyright question

Hi All,

I have converted the default Air Creation ultralight for use as a static aircraft in my scenery. Whats the copyright situation regarding including it in my scenery if I upload it? Who would I ask for permission?

cheers
Keith

That would be in breach of the Microsoft EULA unfortunately.

Even worse, there is no-one to ask .. unless you have contacts at Microsoft.

Hi,

You would not be able to upload the scenery if it contains a MS aircraft that you converted this way, unless you get permission from them.

Quick question along this line. I see in the FSX SimObjects Aircraft folder, .MDL files for all the MS acft. I assume that this is the same kind of MDL file that gMax produces for static object models. So theoritically (I haven't tried this), I could use one of the many applications out there to compile that model into a scenery library and then use it as a static model? I assume that is the point where the copyright gets infringed. OK, we'll stop there.

So is there any way to somehow call those models into a scenery as static AI aircraft? - i.e. write a flight plan so they never leave the ground? I'm pretty sure I could do this for a boat. Set up a path that was shorter than the length of the boat and set it on a long repetition cycle.

That way you are using the .MDL file that the user purchased as part of FSX - just like using a call to the the static scenery that comes w/ FSX - which is not a copyright violation.

Hi,

Yes, if you just call the object that is there by default that won't be a problem. I am not an expert on AI, but if you can make AI traffic that does not leave that would work. Another option is to use SimConnect to position them at the places where you want them, but that would require an external application doing that.
