• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

P3D v5 Memory leak with MCX converted buildings

One more place you can use "photo texture substitution for geometry" is when creating LODs. The LOD tool will generate LOD models and it will also allow importing LOD models. So you could "unbuild" your model some, convert that to import into MCX as a lower LOD - or - you could make a box, project a screen capture of your model onto that box and import it.
I used ThomThom's plugin QuadFaceTools to export from Sketchup2017 as OBJ. It can then be imported to MCX or Blender easily.
Interesting, there are a few .obj exporters, all payware, TT writes really nice extensions. I like to export Collada, because it bundles all the textures into a dedicated folder and points the .dae to them. If there are issues with that, for whatever reason, I'll export .3ds into the previous texture folder and see if that works. MCX unfortunately renames the textures on .3ds export, if you need to go that direction, so they all have to be reassigned.

I'll have to get that OBJ plugin for the extra flexibility.

I’m not fussed about exporting to MSFS, Dick. That’ll come in time, but this thread is aimed at P3Dv5. In any case, and only from my POV of course, it’s about MCX. And I have almost every version of Blender since 2.76, so I know I’ll find one that works for what I need to do!
