• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Mobile Scenery pointing in the wrong direction...

I am working on a mission for FSX:A. I use Mobile Scenery Objects fairly extensively in the mission. Here's the problem.

Some of the people objects face backwards when moving, including,EMT, Fisherman_1,Fisherman_3, and others.

Some of the people objects face in the proper direction when moving including Constructionworker, svenoilrig, etc.

Is this a function of how the scenery was modeled, and therefore not fixable? Is there a work-around to get the ones that face backwards turned around?

There was another thread about exactly this problem. AfaIk there was no workaround. Microsoft has just exported them like they are. They're supposed to be static, so that was not a problem - until some of us tried to move them. :D

I have one more thing to try. I won't tell you what it is because it is incredibly stupid. If, somehow, it works, I'll report back on what a genius I am.

If you want to experiment, look at the ModelID. This is a Model GUID. You can use a mobile scenery object, like a pickup truck, put the GUID for a person in this line, and you will see the person moving like a truck. If you remove the GUID, the object will be invisible.

I did some experimenting with vehicles a while back and I got it to work. I got some strange results, like using a vehicle, and putting another GUID from a fire truck on it. I think I got some vehicles to look like they are backing up. Sometimes the GUID does not match exactly and the vehicle hovers above the ground.

You may try something similar with people and you might get it to work. Look in the Mission Creation document and you will find links to the list of GUIDs (Global Library Objects).

I tried and failed to resolve this problem in a soaring mission where I wanted sixty airborne gliders as moving scenery objects. The Msoft scenery objects for gliders *all* point the wrong way. I had to get into gmax and make some basic glider models pointing the right way - this would have been easy for a modeller but was a serious learning curve for an XML mission designer...
