• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS20 Mod priority options?

Hello all,

As we get more and more FS2020 mods, we also get more mod conflicts. Does anyone have any idea if it's possible to set a mod load priority/ranking or even load ignore? The manifest.json file might be the place to do it, but it currently contains no flags or other info that would enable it. And there's no info in the SDK (yet?).

Appreciate any insights!

- Uwa

content.xml provides some indication of priority order

For FS2004, there were only a handful of developers. Now, there will be thousands, as Asobo has made modding relatively easy. It will be hard to sort out the good from the bad. Luckily, it's easy to delete or move a file from the Community folder.

Yes, but - content.xml lists the official files. I'm talking about community packages, I don't see those using the content.xml. Instead, each community package requires a layout.json and manifest.json. In the absence of any in-game UI/functionality to rank mod load order, the manifest would be the ideal place to include parameters to deal with conflicting mods.

Well I have community folders listed in my content.xml

There are five listed

content.xml seems to list packages in date order in which they were installed.

hmm I wonder if reordering it would stick?

Interesting - I have multiple aircraft mods installed, none of them appear in content.xml. I only have 1 scenery mod - it does appear. Are all the mods listed in your content.xml scenery mods?
Although I create airplanes mods and solving that priority/include/exclude issue is what I am looking for, I wonder what happens when you have two scenery mods that modify the same area. Come to think of it, I'm not sure I can tell you with 100% certainty what happens (in a repeatable way) when you have 2 conflicting airplane mods. "Stuff breaks"..?

Hey Friend! Did you discover an answer to these queries? I cant see any exclusion/priorty set. Orbx have just dropped Sydney cityscape, and some of my scenery objects are there, but just cloned alongside theirs.....hmmm. Maybe we have to reset the polygon exlucions whilst all models are active? I might try that. But regardless at the moment, theres no exclusion over one area. If two objects are there and both are active=yes in content.xml, then both show up, regardless of when installed, when they are in the list or when they appear alphabetically within the community folder.

Yeah, I have not found anything else that would point towards any existing solutions. The problem keeps growing though, and "fortunately" the problem affects commercial mods producers (Orbx, Aerosoft, etc.) as much as it does us little fish. For what it's worth, maybe I'll submit a ticket with Asobo.
Happy to hear any other thoughts or ideas...

I put a ticket for mod management support on the FS2020 website, if you're willing/able to upvote it, that'd be great!

There used to be an app for FSX, I believe developed by a community member, that allowed you to reorder the scenery library priority. I don't recall it's name.
