• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Modeling for P3D vs modeling for FSXA

As I couldn't find my FSXA disks, I am considering taking a step further and obtainng a copy of P3D v.1(my video card is not compatible with v.2).
Here is my question: Is any difference in making models in 3 ds Max for both platforms, or there are only differences in model codding? Also, will model maked for P3D v.1 will work with v.2?

You can comfortably model for FSX:A using P3Dv1 SDK, many people do, if only for support of newer 3dsMax releases.

But ... P3D v1 has a 64k vertex limit, unlike FSX, so big models don't compile. P3D v2 doesn't have that limit, but you need Max 2012 or newer to use the v2 SDK.

Unless..... you have Max 2012 64bit. :)

They started the new SDK's before P3D V2. 2012 will go high on exports. But you need 2012, so you would need a subscription to get it I guess.

I build and export from Max 2014 and compile the X and Xanim's with SDK 2012 64bit and they work brilliant with both FSX, P3D1 and P3D2.

Thanks guys,
I have Max 2012 64 bit and P3D SDK v.2, so I can make the jump to P3D without problem.
BTW my question was provoked from the fact that some addons don't work normaly in P3D, but you answered it briliantly.
Thanks again
