• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX models failing to export with crashbox errors

Hi all,
I have built some objects and am in the process of exporting them into .mdl for import into FSX. On the 2 attached objects, the export is failing with a ton of crashbox related errors. Is there a way to clear out all no crash settings and start over? Can someone please take a look at my objects and see what I've done wrong? All my other objects have exported cleanly. I do know I have more than one no crash attached to the objects, but not sure if that's the problem.
Thanks,
Eric

Hi,

Are these objects very small maybe? That often gives issues with the crashbox.

Send from my phone using Tapatalk, so excuse the short sentences and possible typos

Hi Eric,

I dont know what is going wrong.
There is really tons of errors.

I have made the Objects all new and deleted yours.
They was horrible.
I used your textures.

Exporting are running fine.

If you like it, have fun with them.

@at Arno, do you like to see the error messages?
I can make a picture, because I have no log files.

Here we go:

Lets focus on the original help.zip you have uploaded:

rcplatform.gmax

There are 3 duplicate parts (copies of Box01 Box02 and Box03)

Once the "duplicate" parts are removed the remaining Box01 Box02 and Box03 parts are forund to have "NoCrash" tags applied to them.

If these are removed (via object properties), then the object compiles fine.

The problem is that by removing the crash geometry from these objects, the residual crash geometry is infinitely small, thus leading to an error.

If you must have "No Crash", perhaps use the tags in the placement xml, or alternatively modify the mdl with Arno's ModelconverterX

Sandra,
How did you model the picnic table? Did you just create a box with multiple length/width/height segments and convert it to an editable mesh? Did you apply a boolean cut or just eyeball it to create the taper? Maybe my methodology of using multiple boolean cuts was causing a problem.

Ian,
I'm not understanding the comment on 3 duplicate parts. I see 3 boxes in my File properties. Are the duplicates part of the no crash settings?

Yes, a box was the groundmodel and the first one was the Table Desk, from there I made a copy and made the seats and so on.

Yes, I have tried boolean but it was not so nice. Then I sliced the Object multiple times horizontal and move the Vertices inward. Look in Gmax and set the Edges Faces to see and then you know.

Indeed Eric, my mistake. I may have merged the file into itself when testing.

Remove the nocrash geometry tags from the 3 boxes, and the object compiles fine.
