• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS Licencing question regarding aircraft creation.

Hallo,

I got two questions regarding the licence or some licence fees:

1) If im creating real world aircraft as payware, can I do it without any agreement from real aircraft manufacturer, or do I need to pay them some fees or at least have their confirmation?
2) If my airplane will use asobo G1000 as Carbon Cub does, can I use it without any agreement from Asobo? If I understand it well, I can define where Asobo displays will be located inside my cockpit, so in fact Im not using them in my package, I only call them in the moment when I run game

Thank you
Best regards
Jan

For #2, you can use them in your cockpits without issue. What you cannot do is include the gauges themselves, but you don't need to anyway as everyone has them.

For #1, most developers do this without license from the manufacturer, or if they do acquire one they don't show it. Some manufacturers are very litigious about their aircraft, while others are more relaxed. By not getting a license you should make a disclaimer, but are still taking a risk.

While there is legal precedent of artists beating big companies over artistic license, the cost involved is such that you usually cannot pursue it. So, try for a license.

Thank you very much for answer. I guess the same aplies for pilot or anything which I can "call" from game without having it in my package? Thank you

One more question, how long is the aircraft or car covered by licence or patent? I dont think that someone is asking grandchildren of Spitfire creator for licence?

Thank you
Best regards
