Nav lights placed with gmax

Hi, All

It is possible to place lights on aircraft with gmax. I know how to do that (LIGHT_BEACON, LIGHT_STROBE, etc.). They are easy to locate with precision and are NOT effects, not the kind one finds in the Effects folder.

However, such lights appear too large from a distance, such as a "tower" view or AI traffic aeroplanes.

It almost looks like lights placed in such way (with gmax) appear always the same number of pixels even from any distance.

For one aircraft only is not too bad but, when there is a line-up for take-off, all those large globes of light look a bit ridiculous. I first noticed that when I saw a screen shot of some payware traffic, but my partner in scenery made a Tucano with the same process and turned out with the same problem.

Does anyone know if there is a way of making FS show those lights smaller? (I know I can ask my friend to change the lights, but I am trying to find a more complete solution).

Thanks

Fern

Hi Fern,

You can edit the halo.bmp texture to change the appearance of these lights. But that will affect them from any distance.

Right on

Hi, Arno

Good answer, as usual! Thanks!!!

I reduced the size of the spots of light in the texture bitmap, but maintaining the same size bitmap. That did the trick. All I had to be careful was to keep the new spots centered where the originals were. The planes look much better now.

I made the new light "circles" 45% of the original size.

I am sure that halo.bmp is used for many other things in FS but I couldn't find any places where it now looks bad compared to the original size.

Thanks!

Fern
