• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

Hi All,

I am useless at this effect lark. I am looking for an effect that is as follows.

Two lights, yellow, that "glow in and out" for a Hold Short box. Any help appreciated.

Well, not an effect, but I have made a gmax model for the FS2002 gamepack, that after editing the ASM gives a, in my opinion, very good result. Arno did a great deal of work in helping us out creating this HS-light, that is now also radio-controlled. I´d be glad to share.

I did something like that for the EIDW scenery. I would appreciate it very much, but before sending it you should know this is for a payware project not a freeware one. (Important to make that clear :duck: )

Well, I can live with helping out also with payware - if it is the last stone in a very large build, then please credit me by mentioning my incredible name... :D

Start by with checking the object that is available in the file "update 1" at the bottom of this page. It is the same object, but not radiofrq-controlled. Actually, I´m not certain that I implemented one-way visibility in that one neither, but it is in the version that we are using now.
Just install the BGL into a scenery of its own, and then the lights should be visible at ESMK. If not, just drop a line.

some time ago I saw such lights as macro, but I don't know whether they were programmed as EOD or FSDS objects. The light is names Wig-Wag but You might try to recreate them also in gmax just using timer and showing once one light, the other another. Glowing in and out can be replaced this way, I guess... Otherwise, I have this macro recreated with FSDS 2.24 (without effects) and if You need it, I can send it to You.

But, now what I really need is two of them, side by side that flash alternately.. is that possible?

I managed to get a flashing light, but yours is much better :-) However, I could not get two that flash alternately.
 
OK, after checking, it seems there is an issue in FS9 that does not allow static sprites to be offset in the effects file.

They locked down their position before doing the offsets. This means you can't do an emitter or sprite offset on static sprites. Sooo...

The way around this for the moment is to create an FX Controller that places the same effect twice with offsets. Stand by for an example.

OK, After all that.... it seems that the effects engine does not allow for effect rotation.

So... I am doing this a different way.

Attached are the two effects files, one has a delay of 0.25, which whe both attached to the object works well.

Is it possible to change the speed of the blinking?
I have tried different values, but I cannot find out how to slow down the blinking :(
 
Controller file

I tried using the Controller file above as an example to place a "always on" beacon (fx_beaconwhi.) that could be seen at a distance of 10 miles from the airport. The changes are as follows:

Distance=16000 (I assume meters is still the unit here)
effect.0=fx_beaconwhi.fx, 0.00, (etc., all remaning values 0.00)

When I try to start FS9 I get an ".error 16000.(about 20 zeros after the decimal) is greater than 0. (about 20 zeros after the decimal)". I tried cutting the distance in half and got the same error only "8000.(20 zeros) greater than. . . ".

Can anyone tell me what the problem is?

You have to put TWO values in the line, a min and a max. Ich you want it to start at exactly 16000m then it is
Distance =16000, 16000


... I hope ... :rolleyes:

flashing orange beacon

Hey guys,
Im trying to create an effect for a truck: i need an orange flashing light. Perhaps a strobe light, but the colour needs to be orange and not flash tooo often. Is there a simple way to edit an FS2004 effect to change the colour to orange and the rate of flashing to whatever? Appreciate any help :) !
 
Hi guys:

I'm fairly new to effects creation - what I'm trying to do is a modification of NickW's wig wag hold short light effects. I'm trying to create a Pulselite system for a helicopter model. The system wig wags about 2x a second (each light on for 0.5sec). I havent' had any luck with the controller effect working as a taxi light controlled event. Any hints / ideas?
