• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA New Blender material problems

Hi guys,

With the release of the T.5 just behind me, I thought it would be a good idea to get up-to-date with the current FSX/P3D toolset.
So, for that, I downloaded Blender 2.83 as well.

I copied my T.5 source files into a new iteration and opened them in the new Blender. But, I appear to have lost all material/texture data.
Let's explain it with pictures.

This is what I find in one of my materials. The naming is correct.

When I open the texture tab, I see
1. The wrong texture.
2. It's saying something about "Brush". Why?
3. The assignment (diffuse, spec, etc) cannot be selected anymore
4. There's only one texture slots here, instead of three (texture, spec and bump).

So I thought maybe I enable the FSX/P3D material mode on the material tab.
There I have to select the textures, I did accordingly.

But yet, nothing shows up in my viewport:

Just what am I doing wrong?

In the toolset, there's word about: "texture node is replaced with Eevee shader" but opening the texture node shows a quite empty screen.

Anybody?

I ran across this with an older blender file ( previous 2.80+). Is the original blend file prior to v2.80?

You will have to go to each material and change it to Specular workflow and I believe that I had to replace the textures accordingly as well.

The problem is not with you but from the fact that blender is going from Blender Render to EVEE. This is because there isn't a render as such in the newer versions of Blender. The general settings should be in Cycles (which then to Specular).

Yes the file is from v2.79.

Now I've installed the MSFS toolset, I noticed the same problem, that an existing material does not really convert to a new style material.
So I guess one needs to replace the existing materials?

No, the materials should be fine. Just make sure its set to Cycles and each material is set as specular or PBR.
