• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

New to photoreal scenery

I am new to photo-real scenery. I've experimented a bit and am still trying to get a handle on the limits and techniques involved.

My latest effort, when viewed in FSX, shows photo scenery in the distance but as I get closer it disappears. What dynamic is causing this? What factors influence the resolution of the photo scenery? I have a tutorial on this but I am lacking the fine points on this. Photo scenery is great when I can get it to work.

On a side note, I guess I am spoiled. I instruct in a multi-million motion based simulator that depicts Google Earth scenery for the local airport. I want to due the same with FSX and I feel I am close.

Thanks,

Sbuilder

I recommend Sbuilder.

It has a way to plugin Google Earth and do all the magic for you!

I really like Sbuilder.

Be sure to use the correct version of Sbuilder.
Sbuilder = FS9
SbuilderX = FSX

SbuilderX has the GE tile plugin, you may need to download the latest version of the plugin from here

I have SBuilderX313 and have the appropriate tile dlls. While in the program, I see the photo scenery and go through the steps to make it scenery. I then start FSX. As I fly, I can see the photo scenery 5-10 miles away but as I get closer it disappears.

Finally figured it out. I created a seperate project for each of five maps for the area. They all seem to play nice and cover the area I wanted to deal with.
