• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

MSFS20 New Update

So ya, update time, again. 132 gb at this end, one can only wonder what isn't getting replaced and redesigned, everything we've learned and adapted, out the window, maybe that's why they call it Windows. At it all night, 6 hours and I got 463 mb so far, for a whopping 0%! At this rate, MSFS is simulating a colossal hourglass.

I get that torrenting is probably antithetical to Microsoft, thanks to the Pirate Bay, but couldn't they apply this download to their own MS version of a peer-to-peer server/client network, so we could all get this at the same time? Something like this:

I am also in Download hell. MSFS crashed my computer and caused a reboot, and that was enough to corrupt something in MSFS, forcing me to uninstall, reinstall, and reinstall, and reinstall...

I am having success now by using a free VPN. The download is about 6 Mbits/s but it is working without looping. Arno is also having fits with the update. NetLimiter was of no help at all, nor was fiddling with my wireless settings.

Sorry to commiserate. I discovered my download had apparently been “cycling,” through about 8 mb. It would proceed from 455, to 463 in typical progressive chunks and then start over. Probably going on for hours. I started over and it would get as far as 16 mb and go back to zero. Apparently, the 463 mb got discarded from some cache when I quit and restarted MSFS and there is no trace of my original install, just a bunch of empty folders with today’s creation date.

I uninstalled the whole mess and will check on the new install download from MS Store after work. Woo hee, simulating software engineering with MSFS.

I start to wonder if I just finished downloading this update this morning or if I got the version before, as I started on Wednesday evening....

The current hotfix became available at 8 AM pacific time.. We're now version 1.19.9.0

I'm not sure anything significant was fixed.

Oh great, I am at 1.19.8.0 after one and half day of downloading. Let's see how much time this new update will waste....

Edit: and just tried to start MSFS and the new update is mandatory again as well. So the sim I just downloaded won't even run :banghead:

Edit2: luckily it was only a 500 MB upload to download when going from 1.19.8.0 to 1.19.9.0. So I am up and running again.

I just had the same series of prompts. :banghead:

The only thing that worked to get the update available was to uninstall / reinstall MSFS back into my existing "active" packages folder path. :pushpin:

NOTE: I do make a backup of that "active" packages folder path, but I also leave all files inside it when I uninstall / reinstall (so MSFS recycles files).

Thus far this has worked to minimize my update / download sizes / down time; MSFS seems to utilize some content left in that folder chain.

As to a ~500 MB download it warned of: IIUC it only downloaded ~1 GB (+) ~80 MB after it inventoried files I left in that 'packages' folder hain. :scratchch

Whereas a core ~1 GB MSFS installer downloaded at ~30 Mbps, the second update downloaded at ~80 Mbps (~100 Mbps max, @ 2x ~50 Mbps DSL).

Please tell me this means I already have 1.19.8 and when this is all done I'll be at 1.19.9, even if you have to lie to me.

That's ok I'll do it on your behalf, whew, thanks!

I cycle back to 18.14Gb once I reach 18.21 Gb .. over and over .. I'm turning it off and will try again in a week or so. I'm done with this abortion.

I used a free VPN (ProtonVPN) to fool Microsoft into thinking my provider is somewhere else while downloading. It worked for me this time and has worked for others. It's foolish that we have to odd things on our end to get this downloaded.

The release notes from this latest update inform the safe mode option is triggered after a crash, or forced quit and is disabled while developer mode is active. Bear in mind that resetting the simulator using the software control panel, will reset the developer mode flag and the safe mode option challenge will persist until a normal shut down, presumably, or restoration of developer mode.

I think it is a bug because even when I close the sim normally it shows up on the next startup.

Feels like I've just been completely screwed about by Microsoft - unable to play due to mandatory update, update in store message. MS Store (for days) said I was up to date (Yes, I do know to press the "Check for updates"). Turns out I needed to download yet another (3rd one thanks to MSFS) Xbox app and go through a series of launching MSFS, closing down Xbox app and Store and re-launching, no idea what sequence worked but it eventually found the update. Get nearly half way through for it to say I've lost connection (I hadn't), when it finally resumed it said something about an issue connecting to the Zendesk servers - in other words it stopped the update again but this time completely closed MSFS. I re-launch the MSFS app and it crashes on loading, twice.. so I restart computer and try again, it launches properly and continues the update and froze me at 99% for nearly an hour (bear in mind my entire update size was only 3.3GB or something thereof). Finally got their in the end after nearly 3 days literally fighting with this damned software.

I'm going to be removing MSFS when my current contract is complete - so far my experience with it has been appalling other than the fancy clouds and satellite data.

Kinda glad I got the Steam version now. Have had none of these issues, and am on a lowly Australian NBN rate of max 30 mb/s. MOst of the updating is still done within the MSFS update manager though. Usually just an initial 500MB or so download in Steam, then an automatic update the next time MSFS is started. This seems to be the crux of people's problem, having two separate update sources, either Steam or MS Store, and then the in game update once that initial one has been completed.

I'm starting to realize how unfulfilled my life would be, if I had not all these progress bars, from which to visualize the sands of time trickling my life away. Fulfillment could be the ratio of a bar graph of time spent vs. time spent waiting.

Anyone else notice how slow the sim has become in taking you to your chosen airport?

I was able to update both the MS and Steam editions without alarm or error. I guess I was just that bit lucky

A new pop-up banner for FSDev to replace the existing ones ? :rotfl:
