• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Hi everone.
I am running fs2002 and have installed GMax, updated and registered ok.
I am trying to get started on my first design and found out about GMax at windowlight. http://www.windowlight.co.nz/design.html

I have read somewhere that I need to download the gmax Gamepack SDK from http://www.microsoft.com/games/flightsimulator/fs2004_downloads_sdk.asp#gmax

This is for fs2004.

Will I be ok to design for fs2002 using this or should I not install it. I would like to be able to design for fs2004, but make the scenery usable in fs2002.

Hope someone can help a total beginner.

Thanks.
Dave.

The FS2004 SDK is NOT compatible with FS2002. I use the FS2004 SDK and my scenery does not appear in FS2002.

The Fs2004 SDK is indeed not usuable for Fs2002 scenery. So you will have to use the Fs2002 gamepack, this is included on the CDs of Fs2002 Pro.

Thanks guys. I have now installed the 2002 version and started my first tutorial. Hope to be able to add a few bits of scenery soon. The microsoft tutorial sucks. It is so badly written. Does anyone know of a good beginners guide?

Gmax and FS2002 & FS2004

Hi!...i'm still running Gmax 1.0 and i can export BGL files that are compatible with FS2004 and FS2002 too...(i try my sceneries in fs2004), but some people tell me that on fs2002 they run ok.

The process for create BGL files are much easier from Gmax 1.0 than from 1.2 with FS2004 Scenery SDK... and i get up to 25 FPS in my scenery!

Good luck

:D

Hi,

Which version of GMax you run does not matter. Actually GMax 1.2 is much better, as a lot of bugs in GMax itself have been solved.

The export process is done by the FS gamepack, and there you have two versions indeed. The old Fs2002 gamepack and the new Fs2004 gamepack. If you are designing for Fs2004 only, I strongly suggest using the new one. It provides better performance and imho the XML placement method is the future.
