• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Newbie needs help with airport land class problems.

Need help!:o

In the jpg is a screenshot of the problem. As you can see the old airport was in the wrong place, so i moved it. I added a flatten polygon and polygons to add the correct terrain, but they didn't show up except on the edge of the old island. I want to get rid of the old island, and have the new island in place instead. Any ideas?

You need a program like SbuilderX, or FsxKml, I liked FsxKml but it's making problem and is error prone. but basically you have to take out the old landclass and make a new one. First making all that area be water, then place the new land, and add your new Ade file. nore or less". I have to say it's a little tricky, complicated. I don't know how Sbuilder work. Ade could do the work too (I think), drawing a new coastline adding water polygons, and then adding the landclass.

I have sbuilderx, but it doesnt work on my computer. something to do with permissions. i've pretty much given up on that. any other programs that are useful besides the other one? it sounds complicated.

EDIT: was trying to use version 310 of SBX not 313. works fine now. how do i use sbx to do that?

So i have used sbuilderx and managed to move the island.

Now i have a new problem. (yes i forgot the shoreline and will fix that shortly.)

First, part of the island covers the runway! Second, the part around the rear goes down gradually in the water, instead of coming up abruptly. i want it to simulate a seawall.

Here is what it should look like:

Instead it looks like the attachment.

Hi,

The steepness of the edges will depend on your mesh settings in FS, and how close to a vertex your edge happens to be.

Hope this helps,

@ first reply: i used a flatten at 6 feet, should work... Dont know why it didnt.

@ second reply: i put the edges of the flatten right on the edge of the island next to the water but it is too shallow....

here is the attached file if anyone wants to look at it.
(i included both because i'm not sure which one to upload)

I think you can change the elevation of specific points in the flatten polygon? I don't use FSX so I'm not sure how you do this in ADEX.

Yes you can change the height of every vertex in the flatten polygon, in properties check "edit vertex individually" or something so.But in your case with a rectangle flatten polygon should work.

You should give to the flatten the same height of the airport, it's the only thing I could see, but the flatten should work anyway, always is complicated to make an island.

oops looks like i posted the .bgl files not the .xml or .ade. Can someone check this and see what i'm doing wrong here?

The first thing is that you have excluded hydro-polys but not airport backgrounds or shorelines.

You have not redefined a new hydro-poly. However, I don't think you can define a hydro-poly with a hole in ADE, you need to use SbuilderX.

Edit. Are you using photo-textures? If not, it looks like this:

Here is a quick and dirty fix using SBX in conjunction with your ADE file (with a modified airport background tag):

Sweet thanks! so i did that... BUT the SBX file didnt provide the water. i made a poly with the right hole, and set it to "hydro ocean non perrenial" i didnt see just plain ocean. It wont show though, just lots of trees and ground.

To remove the trees, set the airport background tag in ADE to "Flatten Mask Class Map ExcludeAutogen".

I've atttached the SBX file so you can see the exclusions and extent of the hydro-poly. Obviously you will need to tailor it to your situation.
