• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Next Update or Finish?

I have noticed that the updates for FSX Planner have stopped. Has the work on this software finished and version 28 is to be the last or what. Just curious.

Many thanks,
Gelowims:confused:

I suppose FSX Planner is done. The equivalent to this product would be Airport Design Editor.

Nope, not done. Work is progressing, just more slowly than I would like, due to other projects. As FSX Planner is a free application, it always gets put on the back burner when a paying one comes along. :)

Any gross roadmap as to when we can more or less expect a new release?

It would be nice if one could easily substitute standard airports and search default scenery objects to be placed.

The next version is under development. It's just taking much longer than anticipated due to other projects. I can't really give a due date as we don't have a firm one, but rather a "when it's done" one. So for a gross estimate how does sometime in 2010 work? :)

A tutorial on creating approaches would be nice, so far I cannot find anything anywhere about this nice feature.

Anoter problem with the latest build is that it never remembers the settings of SDK BGL compiler and output directory. Everytime I load the program I have to reconfigure that. I installed it as Admin but use it (as every person should) in a limited (normal user, not admin) account. I have not figured out how to work around this annoying problem.

Among the improvements I can think of to this excellent utility:

* Option to automatically load/display Google Earth or Virtual Earth background
by connecting to their service rather than having the user take a
snapshot and calibrate. The user should still be able to choose to NOT to
display the background.

* Work even when running in a non-admin account so that it remembers
the settings and properly uses the roaming facilities.

* Choosing of menu options is sometimes not responsive, as if it lacks focus.
I think this is a Java thing but I might be wrong. Pity it was not written in C#

* More friendly placement of Scenery Library objects.

* A flatten tool

* Allow the exclude tool to be a polygon rather than a rectangle that
is always oriented along the N-S line.

Your last one is a limitation of FS - Exclusion rectangles can only be rectangles oriented N/S

Sure? so far I have been "going around" that limitation of FSX Planner by doing my flatten & exclude with FSX KML and GE as my polygon maker. Unless of course I have been fooled by the tools and only part of my polygon is getting flattened or excluded.

You are talking about terrain polygons that are compiled using Shp2Vec. These indeed can be irregular shapes. However they exclude autogen and not library objects and generic buildings as far as I know. for these you need to use an Exclusion Rectangle (compiled using BglComp) and these must be rectanglular and oriented NSEW.
