• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Since SAMM was first introduced,I have made many attempts to produce a static model, but so far I have not managed a single rivet. On opening page I select Aircraft from FSX.Aircraft box reads C.....\SimObjects\Airplanes,and Title Box reads Boeing Stearman for some reason, since I have not selected that.If I clik Select in the Aircraft Box,it takes me to Select Aircraft Folder. If I scroll down that to Airplanes folder and clik it,it takes me back to the main page, without the option of choosing an aircraft.

Peter, I need some more information. First of all, what version of SAMM are you using? (The version number is in the title bar.) The current version is 2.2.04. If you are not using 2.2.04, then please download it and try again.

In 2.2.04, when you first click on the FSX radio button, the Select Aircraft Folder dialog opens and the Aircraft and Title textboxes remain disabled or are cleared. Until you actually select (double click on) an individual aircraft folder such as Boeing Stearman, (i.e., not just Simobjects/Airplanes) nothing (should) happens. If you close the dialog without selecting an individual aircraft folder, nothing should happen. However, if you double click on an aircraft top-folder, such as SimObjects\Airplanes, the fist aircraft (alphabetically) will be selected - which may explain Boeing Stearman in the Title box, but not C.....\SimObjects\Airplanes in the Aircraft box

You must be doing something quite unusual to make happen what you say is happening. I am unable to make it happen. So, I'll need step-by-step instructions, using the button/textbox names to help me duplicate the issue.

Yes,I am using 2.2.04.Yes,when I clik on the FSX radio button the Select Aircraft Folder opens.SimObjects is already expanded. If I clik on Airplanes, nothing happens apart from the word Airplanes turns blue.If I double clik Airplanes,it takes me back to the main SAMM page.I can not select an aircraft from this page.Attached a shot of my main page.

Peter, this is not due to any issue in SAMM.

If I clik on Airplanes, nothing happens apart from the word Airplanes turns blue
Yes. But you're not finished. Click on the little "+" sign to the left to expand the folder then double-click on the desired aircraft.

If I double clik Airplanes,it takes me back to the main SAMM page
Yes, by default, SAMM selects the first aircraft in that folder (since you didn't select any other).

Hello Don,When, on the drop down I expand the SimObjects folder,on this, computer 1,there are 6 items, all of which have a plus sign to the left except Airplanes, which does not.TheStearman is in this computers airplane folder, but half way down the list.Computer 1 uses W10 and FSX.I have now switched to computer 2,which uses W10 and FSXSE.Clicking on FSX button produces the drop down with a plus sign against Airplanes, and clicking on it produces the list of airplanes.I have selected an aircraft and proceeded to the make library box.I get message please locate BGLcomp.exe, usually in BGLCompiler section. But it isn't.The SDK is downloaded from P3D,needed to make ADE work in FSXSE.On computer 1,the BGLComp.exe does exist,so I copied it to desktop on computer 2,and then when asked for it,pointed to it.I then get attached error messages.

all of which have a plus sign to the left except Airplanes, which does not.
The only possible reason for this is that the Airplanes folder is somehow corrupted in that the immediate subfolder(s) are not aircraft folders. Since SAMM finds the aircraft properly on Computer 2, that should let SAMM "off the hook". I suggest you compare those two folders on the two computers.

I get message please locate BGLcomp.exe, usually in BGLCompiler section. But it isn't.The SDK is downloaded from P3D
As suggested, the file bglcomp.exe is in the Environment SDK in every SDK since FSX until P3Dv4. If it's not in your SDK, then you probably moved, rather than copied it to the Desktop - thereby deleting it from its original location. Presumably, you are referring to the P3Dv1 or v2 SDK. You can't use the Pv3 compiler to compile for FSX or FSX:SE.

I then get attached error messages.
The message is telling you what's wrong. You need both bglcomp.exe and bglcomp.xsd in order to compile. If the SDK has been properly installed, SAMM will find bglcomp.exe (and bglcomp.xsd) without assistance. If the file had been removed from the SDK (as it would seem), that explains why SAMM didn't find it automatically.

Hopefully this will get you stared.

Don

It is all getting a bit above my head. When I start SAMM,I get the attached folder which shows both files,so why is it asking me to find them.

Because the bglcomp.exe and bglcomp.xsd in the SAMM folder are for FS9 only. (Those are the only versions I am allowed to distribute under the MS license)

For all other versions SAMM looks in the SDK - assuming SAMM can find the SDK. If it doesn't find bglcomp.exe there (SAMM assumes bglcomp.exe will also be there), then it's up to the user to locate bglcomp.exe (and ensure bglcomp.xsd is in the same folder.

Thanks for that explanation.I have now switched to a third computer.I first checked that the SDK contained the two comp files, which it did.Following GMans making single static aircraft library,I have ploughed through the instructions.I have met two snags. When the main page opens I get the attached error, which I have not yet resolved.I then proceed through the aircraft selection to make library, but I can not see below that to see if it asks me to save.I drag the top of the window down, move the window up,and then drag the bottom of the window down, but it still stops just short of the very bottom. Is there anything else to do after I clik on make library.

Peter, I'm hopelessly lost. I can't deal with different problems on 3 different computers. As for dragging windows up and down, how can I possibly address that without screenshots showing me what your screen looks like. Please understand that hundreds (perhaps thousands) of users have used/are using SAMM without such difficulties and that, as such, the issues you are experiencing are most likely a result of the configuration of your computer(s) and/or finger-trouble.

Please settle on one computer, ensure the SDK is intact, delete the file SAMM.ini, run SAMM, select a complete and properly installed version of Flightsim and try again. If you have problems, please send me reasonably high-definition screenshots of relevant areas of you screen, not just of error messages.

BTW, why are you trying to Make Library? It appears you have no models to include in a library.

Don
