• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FS2004 Non Appearing Traffic

Hi,
I have recently returned to simming with FS9 and decided my AI files were way out of date. I decided to download some AIG plans and also AIFP as it looked easier than TTools which I previously used.

After a bit of substitution etc I compiled some plans and everything seemed OK. However, none of the plans appeared in FS9 and after creating a simple plan to check things I find that nothing created with either AIFP or TTools was working.

WoAI and old files are working fine just nothing currently compiled.

I upgraded to Windows 10 earlier this year and think there is possibly something missing although I do have NET Framework 3.5 and 4.6 installed. All my old files that work were created in Win7,
I wonder whether anyone has had the same problem or knows an answer as it's driving me nuts!

Don, there are a number of possibilities causing your difficulties:
  • Are the traffic files stored in a place accessible to FS9?
  • If in the scenery Library, have their folders been enabled?
  • Are your traffic sliders set appropriately?
  • Are the aircraft properly provisioned in FS9?
  • Is there parking available to the destination and departure airports?
  • Are you looking in the right place at the right time?
  • etc.
But, without access to your system, it's impossible to know what is the actual cause

You said "I compiled some plans and everything seemed OK". Since AIFP did not generate any error messsages, it seems highly unlikely the problem lies with the files themselves. When you say "nothing created with either AIFP or TTools was working", how do you know? Have you used the built-in Traffic Toolbox Explorer?

I would suggest as first steps you:
  • take a look at the troubleshooting guide at the end of the AIFP user manual and also available from my website, and
  • examine the situation critically using Traffic Toolbox Explorer
And then give us some details if you don't find the difficulty.

Don

Thanks for replying Don, the answer to all your points is yes.
Previously compiled flights that are working, if I decompile them and then compile they don't work. I know they are not working because there is no traffic at any place, at any time where they were before.
I have just downloaded a copy of Traffic Toolbox SDK and will have a look with that. but I am convinced it has something to do with Windows as I have been writing scenery, afcad and flightplans for many years with no problems.
Will post when I have had a chance to look with the toolbox.

Don

Are you sure you are compiling them for FS9 (and not FSX)?

It will be interesting to know what you find.

Why don't you post one of your non-working files together with its working predecessor and let me take a look.

Don

Hi Don,

Have spent a few hours methodically working through my traffic Files. I isolated all files so I could work on one at a time. I used the same location at the same date/time (0450Z when I knew there was overnight sleepers)

1. I used a knowing working file, a WoA file. De and Re compiled it with both TTools and AIFP with success.

2. I used the old working file which is a modification of the Stock FS file. Repeated the operation successfully.

3. I used the AIG file that I had started this with and once again it compiled but DIDN'T work.

4. I used another downloaded file and methodically went through the aircraft file to make sure I had all the repaints with the correct names. I know I could have used AIFP but wanted to know that it was correct before I used AIFP. It compiled OK and works fine in FS.

So in conclusion there is nothing wrong with my system or compilers and the fault is obviously in my working of the AIG file which had a lot of missing a/c and therefore a lot of substitutions.

Many thanks Don for your time and I look forward to working with your program.

Don

There may be some hidden characters in either the AIG plane's title= lines, or in the aircraft.txt file?

Thanks for the suggestion. Now that I know it is my processing of the file that is the problem I shall be starting over and checking it fully. I had just assumed the package would have been ready to process.

Don, you have not indicated what version of AIFP you are using. If you are not already using it, perhaps you should download the latest Development Release (which contains a fix for aircraft.cfg files that contain a comment in the Title line.)

Don

EDIT: I would also point out that AIFP has been designed to be fully compatible with flight plan offerings from AIG. But, as I suspect you've already discovered, use of AIG flight plans also involves the downloading and installation of custom aircraft or entry of substitutions therefor.

Hi Don

Just a short update to close off the thread. I have now installed several flight plans with no problem although I still haven't succeeded with the original plan I had the problems with, and have given up on it.

I am still learning the ins and outs of AIFP but the ease of installing repaints and substitutions alone make this a wonderful program (All those wasted hours I have spent in the past on those tasks alone!)

Thank you very much Don.

Don
