• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

P3D v4 Not reading addons only scenery CFG

Arno,

Hope it is okay to ask a follow-up question on this: P3Dv4 comes with two add-ons.cfg files. One is located in %APPDATA%\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4 and one in %PROGRAMDATA%\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4.

As far as I understand the SDK, the preferred way to add a scenery is to add them to %PROGRAMDATA, which will not trigger any notification. The auto discovery path (i.e., any add-on.xml placed in %USERPROFILE%\Documents\Prepar3d v4 Files\add-ons) uses the add-ons.cfg in %APPDATA%\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4 and triggers a notification at sim start-up.

Today I noticed that ACM on my PC is only reading the add-ons.cfg in %PROGRAMDATA. The cfg in %APPDATA (and hence all add-on.xml placed in %USERPROFILE%\Documents\Prepar3d v4 Files\) are not recognized and skipped.

Is this expected behavior or should ACM also read the cfg in %APPDATA?

Somehow I have a feeling that I might have some wrong/missing line in one of the add-ons.cfg-files as ACM worked in the past also with add-on.xml found in my Documents folder. But I can not find anything about this in the ACM manual.

Thanks,
Christoph

Hi,

I was not aware there were two versions of the file, so ACM only reads one indeed at the moment.

Thanks for your reply, Arno. Now it makes sense to me. For the time being I can easily replace the %PROGRAMDATA cfg with the %APPDATA one for one sim start only. After ACM is finished, I replace the cfg with the original cfg and everything is merged.

Do you know if there is some documentation somewhere how those two files are used by P3D? Then I can modify ACM to use both.

Only documentation that I am aware of is https://www.prepar3d.com/SDKv4/sdk/add-ons/add-on_configuration_files.html and https://www.prepar3d.com/SDKv4/sdk/add-ons/add-on_packages.html

Prepar3D's default add-on discovery folder is %USERPROFILE%\Documents\Prepar3d v4 Files\add-ons, with the entry added to %APPDATA%\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4. This part lacks documentation but is replicable by placing an add-on.xml in the Documents folder.

Hope this helps a bit and a big thanks for considering this addition to ACM.

Hello!
I have a similar problem (Error while trying to read add-ons.cfg ), I want to note that there are no add-on entries in the: add-ons.cfg file, I have these entries in another file: scenery_add-ons.xml file( i use Lorbys Addon Organizer)...
Any ideas how to fix the situation?

Every time different names. Would P3D just try to read any xml file? To be able to update ACM I would have to know how P3D actually works.

Every time different names
Sorry, I made a path mistake:(
my correct path to my add-ons.cfg(it contains all add-ons entries) : C:\Users\myname\AppData\Roaming\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4 , how to make the ACM read it??
I also attached screen the answer about the paths from the developer Lorbys Addon Organizer:

Let me check which one ACM uses, it's probably only one of the two at the moment.

Thank you, I will wait:stirthepo
p.s
In my case, as I said above, the ACM is trying to read another path:
0:00:03 | Trying to read add-on.xml files from C:\ProgramData\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4\add-ons.cfg(I have no addon entries here)....

Hi,

Sorry, this one was on my todo list for a bit too long. I have just made a new build of ACM that supports P3D v5 and I have directly made sure that both add-ons.cfg files are read. On my installation there was only one such file, so hopefully I use the correct folder. You can find the new build in this post:

Can you confirm that it reads all addons now (from both cfg) files? Or do you only mean the build works in P3D v5?

sorry, but I can't say it for sure...
I have no addons in another path.
I can definitely say that in my case ACM reads all the add-ons along the path:
C:\Users\myname\AppData\Roaming\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v5
and if there is an autogen, ACM adds it to an autogen.xml :stirthepo
