• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Thank-you that was very helpful, how do i get a satelitte image of the aiprort on the screen?

wat is it that i need to place to exclude auto-gen etc?

Thanks.

Chappy,

To get the satalite image of the airport open NZCH.SBP in Sbuilderx and under view click on show backround. Use the mouse wheel to set zoom level of 12-16. You need to edit the polygon to include tha autogen you want to remove. After that compile and copy the BGL to your airport directory.

Okay thanks, but in SB-X the 'show background' option is shaded out, and i cant click on it, so how do i fix that?

also at Christchurch the hills there are flatter than real life so using SB-X could i change the hills to be more mountainous?

Thanks

Chappy

Background options are under Edit | Preferences. Also, you may need the TileProxy tweak to allow downloading of sat images, available at PTSim.com

Have you added any addon mesh for NZ? There's some free stuff available IIRC?

Hi Chappy, me again, I know I keep chiming in here but Chch is my home town.
The FSX mesh is quite good for NZ -- at 75 metres per pixel. It does a good job of displaying the Port Hills. You could redo the mesh, but the only elevation data freely available is SRTM, which is what MS have used anyway. One thing you can check is your mesh display setting -- look for mesh resolution under the scenery tab, and make sure its set to at least 76m.
The current mesh, however, isn't really based on 75 metre data, but only 90 metres. If you want a proper 75 metre mesh, take a look at the Red Baron freeware 75 metre mesh at Geographx.
For the ultimate NZ mesh, you can purchase a 20 metre mesh from Geographx.

Okay well thats kool, im doing that stuff with the background image and i'll leave the port hills alone, lol.

Im pretty sure i dont have any terrain mesh at NZCH airport already.

Thanks for your help guys.

That would be me and my exclude would only exclude autogen (trees autogen buildings ect.)

If you need to exclude generic buildings or library objects a different type of exclude is needed. These would not be called autogen though.

Okay, but i tried an exclusion rectangle thingy with delete library object and generic building or sumthing but wen i looked at the airport in game the buildings were still there, so wat do i need to do, or canu try to get ridd of those buildings for me?

Thanks

Well to start with we need a screen shot from FSX showing the buildings you are interested in removing. Somehow marking them as there are about 9 or 10 buildings on the airport.

My tool of choice will be Whisplacer (http://lc0277.nerim.net/whisplacer.html) to do excludes as it allows you to look in OBX94470.bgl which is where the scenery for NZCH is stored.

im trying to upload the photos but they wont upload mon!!!!!

I have no problem actually knowing where the building are because in SB-X i use a background and in FSX they're exactly there.

oh yeah, if anyone delete those buildings for me, i want to make/have made taxiways near those buildings so make sure it wont delete taxiways signs or anything, just those buildings.

I used Whisplacer to locate the two generic buildings and Sbuilderx to exclude them.

So in SB-X at NZCH airport if i changed some of the ground to how it would be in real life, would the runway slope to adjust to how the ground is changed or would it just screw up. because at NZCH airport the runway slopes up a bit at the runway 20 end, also if i were to change that where could i find the info on really specific altitudes of the airport?

thanks

I've got a problem which i kinda thought would happen, i found some buildings which kind-of look a tiny bit like the canterbury aero club buildings so i put them there using the object placement tool so that they could kinda represent the canterbury aero club buildings but in FSX once i had made that scenery XML into a bgl and put it in the scenery file for FSX the buildings dont show up. is this because there an SB-X thing deleting all generic buidlings and autogen that i place?

here's the XML i made for those buildings.

No, it's the extra '.' in the filename -- a full-stop is one of the characters you really need to keep away from when naming files.

EDIT: reserved characters
