• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

object colors

Hi gang...funny question here, but for some time my 3dsmax does not change to a different color when I model a new part. While it doesn't really impede my work, it would be better if the color changed, as it used to.

Can someone remind me where that control is?

Thanks
Bob

In the Object Color Dialog make sure that the Assign Random Colors check box is checked.

Thanks for your response Mike. I did have the "assign random colors" box checked, which is why I was confused. But your answer did make me go back to that dialogue and I did find the problem.

Turns out my option "by layer" was on by default. I remember now, this is the default for 3ds Max Design, to better align with Autocad...I suspect. The regular 3ds Max defaults to "by object". And that explains why this has been this way since I bought 3dsmax design, but wasn't this way before in my student license of max and in gmax.

Changing this value is in Customize/Preferences...in the layer dafaults section, uncheck "default to by layer for new nodes".

Glad you got it sorted out! :)

I was going to mention about the Layer Defaults in the Preference Setting Dialog if you were still having problems; fortunately you found that one yourself.
