• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hello friends, what is the most efficient tool used to put the model in the accurate postion?
currently, I am using Sbuilderx to put the model, but it take a lot time to move it in a exact place.
any recommend?

You cold try Whisplacer with it free for FSX or payware Instant Scenery 2. In both cases they provide an In Sim placement capability

I've downloaded Whisplacer and checked out a few of the features, but I really need a tutorial or some 1-2-3 step instructions to at least get started.
For example, creating .bgl file and placing it into proper file folders and such.
Any help would be deeply appreciated. Once I get pointed in the right direction, my learning curve should be reduced drastically. :)

A link for Wishplacer http://lc0277.gratisim.fr/whisplacer.html
By comments it's a little difficult to find information, but serching a little could be.
Direct access to the Manual http://lc0277.gratisim.fr/whisplacer_user_manual.html but as said it's no finished
And a post here in Fsdeveloper from Gaiiden talking about Whisplacer http://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/showthread.php?p=184177#post184177
Once you get you .xml placement file, only must be compiled with Bglcompiler.exe. in the sdk tools, once get your .bgl file you should place them in any active scenery folder, or make a specific scenery folder for him.

Tejal,

You said "...must be compiled with bglcompiler.exe in the sdk tools..."

So, SDK must be installed in FSX? I never installed it and perhaps that's my problem. So Whisplacer is not exactly a stand alone tool and SDK is required?

I do not think that Instant Scenery needs the SDK. However that is not free.

I don't find where SDK is needed to place a scenery object with WhisPlacer.

I'm also looking at RW12 Object Placer (I used it several times with FS9), and it appears it will also work with FSX and not require SDK.

Can anyone comment on this? Have you used RW12 successfully with FSX?

I did create a .bgl and .xml, but I'm not sure where to place .bgl and .xml in FSX. It would seem reasonable to create a folder under Addon Scenery and place the .bgl file there, but after doing so and adding the new scenery folder to the FSX scenery libraries, I could not see the object displayed so I'm not doing some right.

Jon,

Would you kindly explain the possibilities of ADE to place an object in the scenery? I could but I would prefer it be you because you are more into it than I am (But as the original poster did not respond I wonder if you should bother).

I can't answer about Whisplacer except that I think it uses mission code and not scenery design code. Whether that avoids the need for the SDK I cannot say.

As for RWY12 it requires a compiler. Whether it will use the FSX compiler I do not know. It does use the FS9 compiler which is freely available. However FS9 objects do not always work in FSX. So yes it may be possible to use RWY12 in FSX. As I recall though it does not have a graphical interface.

As for ADE it does require the SDK. So if you do not have the FSX SDK then you cannot really use ADE. I suppose again that you could use it in FS9 mode and try the FS9 Bgl in FSX. Be aware that many FS9 objects will not show correctly in FSX because of changes in the way materials and textures are handled between the two versions.

The simplest place to put your Bgl files is in Addon Scenery\scenery. You also need to make sure that the library Bgl files containing the objects you are using are also placed so that FS can find them. Simplest again is to put the Bgl file in Addon Scenery\scenery and the Textures in Addon Scenery\texture. This can become a problem if you have a lot of third party libraries and in that case most users will create their own location for these.

ADE can place objects as Roby says. However there is not a lot of point if you do not have the FSX SDK available. The same methods are used in ADE for FS9 however and the manual explains it all pretty well ;)

Jon,

Thanks for the reply. This is the information I needed. I have my FSX program running so well now, I'm afraid to install SDK and find it screws up my sim so I guess I'll delay my plans for placing objects in FSX for now. If it becomes necessary to un-install and re-install FSX (and a multitude of payware scenery) I may take a shot at installing SDK at that time.

Cheers!
Jarm

I think the SDK tools are installed outside of your main fsx Installation folder.

example :

/ Microsoft Games / Microsoft Flight Simulator X

/ Microsoft Games / Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK

I could be wrong though.

Correct. The SDK is installed in a different place than the Sim by default and that is the way it should be done. I am not aware of anyone getting the sim messed up by installing the SDK. The only way I could see it happening is if you installed the SDK into FSX and that is not the way ;)
