• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Objects from fs9_custom_buildings_ss

Hi folks,

I have a problem with the objects "contained" in the object libraries fs9_custom_buildings_ss_1 and _2 from Sidney Schwartz:

- Some objects from fs9_custom_buildings_ss_1 and lots of from fs9_custom_buildings_ss_2 are diplayed correctly in the object selection menue of SBuilder, but don't appear at all when placed in a scenery. I can place them and get the footprint displayed in SBuilder but I get no visible object in the scenery after compilation (seems to miss the model).

- Some objects from fs9_custom_buildings_ss_1 show up correctly in my scenery but don't appear at all or just without resp with damaged textures when using the scenery on another PC. Tests show that three different testers had three different results (I had all objects displayed, the second had some objects without or with partly missing textures and the third one missed some objects completely). E.g. the object "Large building 1" out of fs9_custom_buildings_ss_1 showed this missbehaviour.

- This effect applies only to library objects out of fs9_custom_buildings_ss, all placed macro objects work perfect on all tested systems.

- The object packages do NOT include any BGLs or BMPs, so I am sure that (at least most of) the objects and their textures should already be present on any PC with MSFS2004 installed. Just customized installations (e.g. leaving out some geographical areas due to limitted disk space) should lead into conflicts because of missing BGLs and BMPs. AFAIK the objects of these libraries are typical North American buildings.

My problem is now to identify these objects and textures which should be loctaed anywhere in the directories of the FS9, and to add them to my related scenery directories to avoid any problems with displaying them. But I don’t know the file names of the objects containing BGLs and I don’t know the names of the linked textures. How can I work around this? Any suggestions?

Hi Kurt,

Normally it should not be necessary to copy default textures to your projects texture folder. That has the potential to make a huge mess of things :).

In which way are the objects distributed? As a library BGL or as MDL objects? In the last case I assume that you some how loaded them in SBuilder or did you make a library for them yourself?

Good morning Arno,

at first thanks for your reply! The objects and their textures were not distributed with the object packages (maybe I used an unclear wording) as you see from the quote below. All of them should be present from the original installation of MSFS2004. Sidney Schwartz just digged them out of the default BGLs and collected them in his package.

My problem is now that some of my colleagues have obviously another installation of MSFS2004 than me because I can see all placed library objects while they have several troubles with displaying the correctly.

My approach is now to find the affected BGLs and textures for those objects which I used in my scenery. This would enable me to add the missing data to my scenery and texture directory. Do you see a serious problem with this? If yes is there a work around existing? And how can I find the required files?

Ah, the very early days of EZ-Scenery.

Kurt, you say there are no BGL files, but there has to be one that is the container for the MDL files. It's part of Sid's package, along with a matching .TXT file. There will be no BMP files, as it relies upon what's already installed into FS9. Is everyone running the 9.1 updated verion of FS9?

Worst case situation, Jon's (Scruffyduck) Library Object Viewer could probably be used to check the texture calls by the objects in the BGL file.

Hi Lance,

yes - these old days where driving was dangerous and sex was safe... ;)

There MUST be definitely one or more BGLs but in my oppinion these are already present in the FS2004 installation.

This is what the describing text in FLIGHTSIM.COM says about:

When you open the ZIPs you will find no BGLs at all! ssf9cb1.zip just contains 146 JPGs, 1 thumbs database, 1 readme file and 1 text file with the object data for SBuilder. And for the second volume it is basically the same.

Jon's LOV could be helpful - I will try this today. Actually I just use his texture finder but unfortunately this works only with macro objects.

Anway thanks for the moment!

EDIT: I AM A COMPLETE FOOL! I just needed to read the text of the FLIGHTSIM download page! FS9BLDS1.ZIP and FS9BLDS2.ZIP are the files I need to make it work! It was a complete accident that several buildings I used must have been used before in other sceneries and worked therefore! Sorry about this absolute simple fault - sometimes I can't see the wood because of the trees...
