    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

ObPlacer-Library Beacon doesn't rotate

Hi,

When I place a gen_beaconxxxxx Default library object with ObPlacer 0.82.33:

1. The beacon shows but doesn't rotate
2. The beacon appears lit-up during the day as well

I can compile an XML file using the <Beacon type="CIVILIAN" etc. with BGLCOMP and it works just fine, but when I use ObPlacer, Default library objects, the problem occurs.

By the way, I actually copied and pasted the top part of the xml generated by ObPlacer into my own xml, and I only modifed the bottom part, where I entered "Beacon type..." etc. This, I assume, means that the lat, lon, alt, and heading are all OK.

Any ideas why that is?

Thanks, All

Fern

Hi Fern,

I think this is because the beacon library object is something different than the special XML beacon command. This last command probably has some added functionality for the rotation, etc. While the library object is just the visual model used for the beacon. So if you place that you only get the model.

Beacon doesn't rotate

Thanks, guys.

Pitty that the thing doesn't rotate. It would make life much easier. I enjoy coding just as much as the next guy, but it would be very nice if the library thing just... worked!

Arno, you are probably right, because none of the beacons rotate, and the "heads" don't rotate either.

As a temporaty solution I saved a copy of the xml that works in my collection of BGLComp "objects".

Thanks.

Beacon - appears lit during day

Hi, Arno

Just a reminder that, if you will work on making the beacon rotate anyway, perhaps you want to make it only appear lit at night.

I am not sure we could use "time of day" to do that, but then it might disappear altogether during the day, requiring a stationary "head" to be placed there, etc...

And thanks.:D
