• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

ADE Odd issue with background image

Hi,

I'm having an odd issue regarding background images. The background image I want to use is a 1.2 GB bitmap file. So I converted it to a 42 MB jpeg fil. ADE (current version) refuses the jpeg file, stating it's not a valid image file. I have no issues viewing said jpg file in Windows 10, so am at a loss. I would have attached the file to this post, but it is too large.

Thank you,

Ed

Ed, I believe your last phrase is the issue. At 42MB the picture is just to large for the graphics engine that ADE uses. Off hand I don't know what the upper limit is. Maybe Jon can chime in and inform us.

Yeah... a shame... as I could use the detailed imagery to position items better. Oh well... one has dreams... LOL :D
Thanks!

Perhaps you could break the image into smaller chunks, add them into the ADE layout - turning them on or off as you move around the layout?

I must admit, I wouldn't have a clue as to how to do that. Thanks anyway. :D

I have never needed such high resolution to place objects. A much lower resolution is plenty.

ADE probably complains about a background image over 7Mb. This is for the 32bit app (that is for FSX/P3D) and is a result of limitations of memory allocation. The above suggestions such a lowering resolution or splitting the image into several rather than one may help. ADE 2020 is 64bit and doesn't have the same limitation. At some point I will work on converting the existing ADE to 64bit also

Thanks for the information Jon.
